I am fortunate enough to have an XKR Black and Speed Pack. I have had some modest modifications made which has made the performance on par with an XKR - S. The Jag is simply sublime and classy, but plant your right foot and it is a storming piece of kit. I had to wait a long time to be able to afford one, and after some careful looking found the Jag for me, it is the best car l have ever owned.

I have had mine for 2 1/2 months and covered the best part of 3k miles. I absolutely love it. I would rather spend less time at extortionate petrol stations, but that has more to do with them than the car.
I would have preferred a manual gearbox but I'm learning to cope.

I absolutely loved mine: an 07 plate XKR back in 2010-2012. I almost bought another a couple of years ago but went 55 plate Merc SL instead. I’ve been mulling over chopping that in for an XKR.

Hmm.

The 4.2 seems decent value for money in the current used market. Do fancy one in the near-ish future. Certainly one for the shortlist although you're also in XFR territory with the pricing.

A couple of additions/corrections to the article
The version not mentioned
5.0 L AJ-V8 Gen III supercharged V8
I bought a 2012 one two years ago with one owner FSH and 21k on the clock
With every possible extra from black pack , etc etc
Yes a Grand Tourer but a supercar too
Looking like, sounding like and going like!
Let’s just say I will never sell it and the better half’s offer of a Lamby fall on deaf ears
Two years after purchase for 25K the insurers have upped the value to 35!
Buy one like mine - you will not be disappointed ??

Parents have currently got a 5.0 V8 Coupe with the pre facelift lights but from just around the time of the facelift (2011ish?)

They’re thinking of getting rid but I’m amazed considering they’ve stopped making them that the values are so low in the current market.

These just sinking like a stone or what?

£650 tax every year and a thirsty V8 with current petrol prices don’t help I know but Jag will never make another and it’s a gorgeous thing with an epic soundtrack.

They've recovered from rock bottom. I sold my (very tidy) 4.2 for less than £7k in 2020.

I've had my 2010 5.0L XKR for over 9 years and will pass 200,000 miles next month. It is simply the best, most reliable car I have ever owned in 55 years of driving. Pulleyed and tuned to about 600hp, it has been tracked many times and continues to be a pleasure to own and drive everyday. A lot of car for not much money!

I bought mine in December, the salesman admitted that a year or so earlier, it would have been about £4K less.

How did the XKR compare to the SL? Both auto only, both V8, both nice but not as sporty as a 911...

Fingers crossed they can afford to keep it a bit longer then and sell when it creeps up.

Found a picture (could've just taken one tbh) of the day my dad picked it up. It's such a lovely thing even if it never gets driven anywhere.

Very nice.

This is mine, hard to believe I only got £6850 for it really. I was pretty sure at the beginning of covid that it would soon be worthless, but completely misjudged it as it turned out and sold it at rock bottom:

[hi
Where did you get the seat belt protector covers from please
Thanks
Davidquote=marktmorgan]Nice old thread

I owned an old XK8 for over 13yrs, replaced it in Oct 2018 with an XK Dynamic R, first white car I've ever owned.

There were only 5 in the UK with the interior trim I wanted (red quilted sport seats)

I have (in a 380 mile round trip) managed 31 mpg, verified by brim-to-brim to brim fulls, but that was taking to easy with son and dog in car

Some pics

Stuff/Mods done so far

Full detail and paint seal
New Michy PS4S's
4 wheel alignment
wortec discs with ebc red pads
DTUK transmission flash (made a real difference)
Trying to stick to the speed limit!

Rear seats, I bought them mainly or luggage, but being a short@rse at 5;'6" my son of 5'7" can sit behind me.

Well worth the money and wil be keeping until I'm well into retirement...53 at the mo biggrin

Such a beautiful design and to this day, still looks fresh.
Have been looking for the past 6 months but yet to dip my toe in the XK market. Would ideally like a facelift Coupe Portfolio, as feel 5.0l N.A will suffice.
Hope you're all still happy with yours!

Prices have dropped of late so not a bad time to buy. Still loving mine, apart from my insurance renewal which has doubled!

Think there may be still a little further for stuff like this to go, looking at the listings some have been for sale for a long, long time.

The older versions seem to be holding their values even with 70-80k mileage. Saw a gorgeous Italian Red 13 plate last week with 13k miles at £25k. Tempted if it had been through a dealer but was a private sale

Will keep hunting

These have had an absolute hammering value wise this year, WBAC have started offering next to nothing and even dealers are accepting CAP values are a fantasy when disposing of trade ins:

FWIW I think they'll be lucky to get the Buy It Now amounts.

As mentioned dealers and some private sellers are holding out for fat margins, but for example I know this car finally sold at trade auction for a hair over £13k after about 7 or 8 runs round the block.

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202310233...

The late facelift models in exciting colours with next to no miles on them still seem to get high teens to early 20s on a good day, but everything else changes hands for eyebrow raising sums at trade, so if you do pay top whack you better plan to keep the car long term or you'll lose 1/3rd overnight. Trade avoiding them unless they cost buttons very strongly implies they don't sell well at retail.

I picked up a somewhat leggy (130k miles) fully historied 5.0 XKR convertible so cheaply that it would have been rude not to buy it a couple of months ago, I've had to fix a few niggles and I'm having a new roof put on it, but with the Elite rear silencer a PO has fitted it's absolutely hilariously funny to make progress in and has been great as my 1,200 mile a month daily. I can't think of anything better without spending several multiples of what it cost. I keep getting tempted by the £16k 60,000 mile DB9s that keep cropping up but I have zero confidence they would stand being actually used as a car.

I've even come to like the silver.

ETA - X100s have also taken a huge beating at trade, the 4.2 models will do slightly better but again only the last of the line cars with low miles get more than shed money. This suggests they're not selling either. It makes sense - mortgage doubles, energy bill doubles, grocery bill up 50%, running a thirsty old Jaguar stops being a priority. Definitely a buyers market.

I used to work at a jaguar dealer in about 2011 a little after these got the 5.0 R engine. I had some wonderfully fond memories of road testing them and just how relaxed, comfortable and dignified they could be one moment, and how eye ball popping, neck snapping, "I need a cigarette and a lie down" visceral they could be the next moment.
Despite having driven some great cars in my time, the xkr (and at least imo) and the xfr were always at the top of the list for scariest car as well as most enjoyable for me.

I've been lucky enough to drive a few leggy XKRs recently and honestly? I think they have gotten with time. Like going back to an old partner you had a fling with 10 plus years ago, that you had fond memories of but worried that age and time will have distorted and worn things out so the memories are best left as memories...

Erm, no. They are absolutely bonkers, if anything even better than I remembered. I absolutely would not be paying over the odds for a low mileage car, they have worn remarkably.
I drove a 140k mile car and then a 50k car back to back, both and the drive, experience and smile on my face was identical on both.

Let the old boys that delude themselves into think that x150 XKRs will be looked at in the same way that they do for e types Someday (spoilor warning: They won't), let them pay £25k for a car because it's a one of three in the world because it has red stitching, be smart, buy on condition first, history second and absolutely mileage last and enjoy them - there are wicked bargains to be had on these at the moment.

Makes stuff vaguely comparable like db9s, leggy Bentley GTs and Masarati GTs look, drive, feel and perform like rubbish. Get one now.
