Looking for a weekend soft top that I can fit in and carry the golf clubs, I am 6 feet 4, and around 17 stone, with 35 inc legs. Tried a number of cars, z4, mx5, Baxter, tt, xk, 944. I can fit in A4 & A5, however thought these were a little bit bland.

I can fit in the new version of the sl 500, old version I struggle with unless some one knows of a fix to lower the seat further.

What about a TVR, and one have any thoughts or what about a stag.

Peter Wheeler who owned TVR during the Chimeara, Griffith, Cerbera, new Tuscan etc. era was well over 6ft and this was taken into account when the cars were designed. The Chimaera apparently will hold 2 sets of clubs in the boot easily. It also has a soundtrack to die for, wonderful looks and a lovely interior.

Find your local TVR meet and go chat to some owners who I am sure will let you try the drivers seat on for size! smile

Thirty odd years ago when me and my mates were knocking around in MGBs and Spitfires, the 6'8" member of the gang who couldn't fit in to drive them, got himself a Triumph Stag

I am also 6-4 and 17 stone. I'm surprised you didn't fit in the z4 (was that the 1st gen shape or the 2nd?) as I owned a 1st gen for a while and fitted comfortably enough. I've also owned a Tuscan - again there's enough room. Pretty sure you'd be ok in an xkr convertible if that's your thing. New boxster fine also but I'm guessing pushing the budget. You can forget about 370z, s2000, Griffith or tamora.

I'm 6' 5" and the 350Z was an absolute no-no for head room.

S2000 is snug but manageable. Not sure about the golf clubs though, the boot is a bit minimal.

At 6'4" and North of 16 stone I was comfortable.

I looked at an S2000 many years ago but at 6 foot 3 and 34inch leg, it was just too tight which was a pity as they offered me a great deal. I opted for a Boxster which fitted me perfectly. No chance with the MX5, SLK or TT.

Can't understand you large fellas who say you fit/almost fit in an s2000, I got in and couldn't move anything below the waist - I thought I'd need the fire brigade to get out. I guess I'm large in different places wink

I'm 6"4, and used to drive a mr2 roadster. No problem, great little fun car. Handling is better than an mx5 for the first gen before they softened it.

You see, I don't doubt you as it's obviously dependent on your body shape and torso/leg length etc. but I couldn't even get the door shut when I tried lol

True, I've probably got a longer body than average but I do have longish legs and fitted fine (head did catch the breeze a bit though) certainly nowhere near not being able to shut the door. Bought one brand new on the day it was launched and was the 10th car sold in the country. Loved it.

The tvr is the best choice I suppose because Peter w was properly tall.

They did look like fun little cars...but no boot! You must have traveled light! :-)

Ideal commuter car, light on fuel and fun.

One of two cars I have owned that could be steered on the throttle (by which I don't mean drift style with smoking tyres, just the ability to adjust the line by modulating the throttle )

Bizarrely the mk1 mr2 I also had did have a bigger boot !

Only car I have really been unable to get in, was a cappuccino !

Which did you mean by old SL500, the R230? I had an SL of that era (2004/2005 I think), and at 6'2" I had loads of room. Are you sure you adjusted the seat all the way down, there is a lot of adjustability.

I could not fit in the Lambo Huracan I tried to sit in at Geneva though!! Just in case that was on your list wink

I straight swapped my MX5 with a tall PHER a few years ago, he was tall. You can take foam out of the seat base for extra headroom...
