Bought a Land Rover 90 today, it has 2 rear inner facing seats.

Its a 1987 model, the same year the law requiring them to be fitted was introduced.
It doesnt have seat belts, could it of been produced pre law introduction date?
If so is it legal to leave as is?

If it was used before 01/04/87 rear seat belts are not required, if it was after 01/04/87 only certain forward facing rear seats require belts.

It's in the MOT testers manual here:

Forward facing rear seatbelts?

The seats face inwards towards each other

Exactly - therefore it doesn't require them.

Sorry, I meant in the eyes of the law not just the MoT

Or is it the same?

It seems pretty much the same, the construction and Use Regulations:

http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1986/1078/regul...

Pretty much say the same thing and only mention forward facing rear seats.
