Obviously if you're fully comp then they'll pay out for this. I would get a quote before phoning them though as it might be cheaper in the long run to just pay out of your own pocket depending how big your excess is.

To be fair, I think I am just worried that insurance would not cover for my own damage (my own stupidity). The excess isn't too bad and no claims are protected. - Car is brand new, literally a week old.

What time frame do you have to report to insurance within? This I am assuming is a more straight forward claim than say crashing someone else's car as I will just admit fault directly over the phone.

Please dont make the mistake of 'just letting them know but not claiming'. The amount of people that do that then come back on here whining is more than it should be.

Suggest you visit a body shop and sort it yourself

Thank you, will go tomorrow. Do you know the timeframe to make a claim, as it happened yesterday, don't want it to be within 24 hours only. - Will only be able to go to the body shop tomorrow you see.

Your no claims might be covered but your increase in premiums isn't.

You can make a claim in 10 years time if you wanted, if it's just your car you want to claim for it doesn't matter when you claim.

AS already suggested your premiums could go up even if the NCB is protected, then you still have the excess to pay anyway.

Minor damage in a car park might not be worth involving insurance with a claim as I suspect they will be the winners.

Two new panels, possibly three if the sill is damaged, plus inspection time, a respray in notoriously-hard-to-match silver, plus QC, plus paperwork. The BS will need the car for a week, so you'll have to hire a replacement, plus deposit, plus Excess Protection. The bill will be two grand. Just phone your insurers, that's what they're there for.

Thank you, doesn't seem as simple as expected. Insurance it is then... hope they don't take the mick with the claim, should be straight forward, my fault to admit straight the way on the phone and good to go?

At the risk of sounding like Loon, what exactly are you scared of regarding the insurers "taking the mick"?

I appreciate this is all new to you, it would be new to me, but you really oughtn't believe the tripe you read online about claiming on car insurance.
It isn't quite as rosy as some (almost always ladies and absolutely always 'non-car people) seem to think. By which I mean, don't expect simply to make one phone call and have precisely zero disruption to your life at all, but if you're realistic in your expectations, you'll be fine.

The car is drivable, so won't be a priority for the insurers or the body shop or the hire car company, but if you do some chasing of your own (you wouldn't believe the number of people who bother to make a claim, then simply don't follow it up and wonder why their car is still unrepaired 3 months later), they'll assess it this week and get it booked in for 10 days or so from now.

Don't bother taking it to the BS tomorrow, it's a Monday, the place will be rammed to the eyeballs (rafters, perhaps).

As others have said, it may be cheaper (in the long run) to pay for the repair yourself. Your premium will rise if you claim.

Someone hit our car whilst it was parked and no one was in it, but our premium rose when renewal time come! Insurance companies do not need much of an excuse to rape you.

2k? Seen you coming.

Up yo you OP whether you want to take it on the chin and lay out a few quid now or pay your excess and pay increased premiums until 2021.

Is it covered? Yes, you're fully comp so your insurance company will repair it minus your excess

Should I report it to my insurance? Depends. I would visit a decent bodyshop first and ask for a quote with you paying. If you decide to progress and get it repaired yourself then should you report it then it will be marked as an at fault accident which means an increased premium.

But I have protected NCB!! Indeed you do. When premiums are decided they have a formula, having any form of accident adds a loading, then your discount is applied.

When should I claim? There is no rush as no-one knows when the accident happened.

2000 Zimbabwean dollars more like?

You'll be extremely unlucky to pay more than 400 to get that repaired at a decent private body shop. Go on to your local forum and ask for suggestions.

Removing a dent on the rear and painting the whole side of my car, after it had been keyed cost me £350.

If you're ufussed about loosing your car for a few days, then it's going to work out cheaper in the long run. Claiming will increase your premium for up to five years -even though you've got protected no claims bonus-. All for the sake of saving a few quid on a repair.

contact your local dent doctor, mobile repair guy, its bread and butter to them.

dont claim as the insurance will take it back over the next year, and again the following etc.

A decent body shop would charge no more than £500 to repair this.
There is no sill damage, and as the OP stated, the door is only paint damaged.

OP, I would not be involving my insurance Co if I were you.
