I've just returned home after a few hundred miles touring round the central Highlands, much of it on narrow or single track roads. With one exception every other road user I came across, whether on two legs, pedal powered or motorised, was polite, considerate and friendly - as I was to them. If cyclists or walkers pulled over to let me past I gave them a cheery wave and toot of the horn which was always acknowledged with a wave. Sensible use was made of passing places by motorists with the same result.

The exception was on our way home. I was cruising along the A827 which runs down the side of Loch Tay. Some stretches are narrowish and bumpy so I was doing 50-55 tops. In the distance I saw two joggers, coming towards me on my side of the road. So far, so good, as I prepared to move to give them plenty of room.

Both of them (women) started to wave their hands at me so I started to slow down to find out what was wrong. As I drew alongside my wife wound down her window. "YOU'RE GOING TOO FAST. CAN'T YOU SEE WE'RE ON THE ROAD?" one of them shouted at me. "No I wasn't", I replied, somewhat bemused. "YOU WERE" shouted the other. I decided at that point that life was too short to argue with fkwits so moved off, to see them shaking their fists at me in the mirror!

WTF? Can we now expect militant joggers to start wearing headcams?

The most pleasant place I have ever driven was on Islay. Polite people who always stopped if they saw you walking and asked if you wanted a lift. Maybe that is the the joggers were pissed off?
