I imagine most older corsas would be using C20LET conversions rather than Z20 ones.

The one time I've been to drag racing I witnessed a 'stock' ( according to the owner) corsa 1.4 running mid 11's over the quarter. Was certainly scarring some more expensive metal that day. He claimed he didn't even have a license his dad drove the car to and from the strip but boy did that thing shift. I reckon it must have had a chip and filter modification.
More like a red top conversion.
Red top turbo with high boost conversion perhaps. A red top converted corsa would be lucky to do mid 14's.
A Z20LET conversion is what you are looking for. A "Red Top" is Z20LEH iirc
Correct on the engine codes, same engine pretty much though so we always knew them as red top turbos.

there were a fair few corsas and civics etc running yesterday-giving some good times and speeds.

I think the "redtop route" in corsas is pretty well known and popular as a conversion.

I always though the Ford Model A was an odd choice. Must have the aerodynamics of a brick.

I'm sure an LS 1 laughs in the face of aerodynamics;)

though you are right, small frontal area and low drag would certainly make shoving the car through the air as easy as possible.

Buses With Attitude!

Some of the members have buses (pre 1967) that run sub 14Seconds, or to give a sense of perspective they are faster than current Golf GTIs!

Yep, they have a few that are down in the 12s now, which is scary quick!

"Our" bus is still in the top 20, the Sambasaurus at number 15. Dan the previous owner ran 15s in it but we have a bit less power now and were running consistent 17s at the Summer Nationals, which is not bad with 21 windows worth of heavy glass and a roll cage! It's not mine but I crew for the team and drink all the beer... Once we've scrubbed the new eco-tyres in (via big smoky burnouts) we're hoping for high 16s at Bug Jam.

Summer Nationals isn't a VW-focused event so we got a lot of surprised public and competitors in the other classes gawping and asking questions. It's also the only race car I know of that I can comfortably sleep in biggrin

I had a stock e30 BMW 320i once, that could run mid tens on the strip. You'll never believe it, but it was an auto as well !

My old 1.9 non-turbo Kangoo Diesel Van.

Managed 27 runs in the RWYB at Bug Jam in 2010 (it was a quiet Friday!), with a best time of 22.89 seconds @ 54 mph. Wasn't the slowest of the day though, I beat a stock VW Type 3 "Squareback" Automatic by .4 of a second!

Drove it to Italy three days later, averaging 58mpg. Shame the rust killed it.

I don't believe it. My near stock 325i will only run 16's at 86mph
