A Z20LET conversion is what you are looking for. A "Red Top" is Z20LEH iirc
Z20LEH is an Astra VXR engine.

Jet cars or trucks are all kinds of bonkers. Try 3.4 seconds to 217mph

That truck is doing 1/8mile, not 1/4

6 sec 1/4 is into top fuel stuff...

But jet cars are quicker than top fuel? I thought they were. No need for traction just light the afterburners and go.

Top Fuel runs into the the high 3 second bracket now at around 325mph albeit over 1000yds and not 1/4 mile.

As for a stock 320i doing 10 second quarters, never in a month of Sunday's.

Dave Bull used to run regularly at Crail with his 2.0 turbo'd K11 Micra. It ran 11s iirc before being written off.

I had a stock e30 BMW 320i once, that could run mid tens on the strip. You'll never believe it, but it was an auto as well !
I don't believe it. My near stock 325i will only run 16's at 86mph
Either he meant to write "teens" or that's mega BS.

Yep, they have a few that are down in the 12s now, which is scary quick!

"Our" bus is still in the top 20, the Sambasaurus at number 15. Dan the previous owner ran 15s in it but we have a bit less power now and were running consistent 17s at the Summer Nationals, which is not bad with 21 windows worth of heavy glass and a roll cage! It's not mine but I crew for the team and drink all the beer... Once we've scrubbed the new eco-tyres in (via big smoky burnouts) we're hoping for high 16s at Bug Jam.

Summer Nationals isn't a VW-focused event so we got a lot of surprised public and competitors in the other classes gawping and asking questions. It's also the only race car I know of that I can comfortably sleep in biggrin

I'll 2nd that- my stock 320i touring e30 ran 16s all day long at York- and my reaction time was not 5 secs;)

Tyree actually have better traction off the line than jet cars. But they run similar times on the 1/4 iirc

At North Weald on Sunday, a bog stock 1950's Ford 100e with the 1103cc side valve engine. Covered the quarter mile in 58.16 seconds who says small 1930's cars can keep up with modern traffic?

Lots of old stuff running there-an incredibly fast and immaculate looking Toyota 4 door saloon (definitely a non stock engine), a matt black skanky looking V8 SD1 Rover, a Mk3 Crayford Cortina convertible, running a Rover V8, and a rusty Toyota Celica with a home made dash integrating a laptop and a few screens.

Whats Tyree? Do you mean tyres? Jet cars don't use tyres for traction they move forward due to the thrust from the jet engine.

Yes, typo. Well done.

I know jet cars don't drive the wheels hence my comment. Jet cars do not have great off the line acceleration compared to wheel driven cars. They do accelerate better once moving though, due to sheer power output.

North Weald event dates are shown at www.maitlandracing.com

Only one car and bike date left on Sunday 26th July, and bikes only on 9th August. £10 to spectate, £25 to run the track.

Some really good vehicles there (plenty of sub-10 second quarter mile times from road cars), including (this time) quite a few Transit vans too. Top day out!

The 58.16 second 100E:
