RE: Stadium Super Trucks: Time for Tea?
Monday 6th July 2015
Please excuse more hi-po, hi-octane thrills following Friday's US-fest. But this is brilliant. We'll do something restrained tomorrow.
Stadium Super Trucks: Time for Tea?
How to liven up V8 pick-up circuit racing? Jumps!
Stadium Super Trucks is five-year-old's motorsport for grown ups. There are jumps, bumps, pick-ups and V8s. As a spectator, er, spectacle it must take some beating. In this three-minute onboard we see trucks on three wheels, spinning over the jumps, losing tyres and slithering round every bend of the Long Beach Course. It's superb.
Yes, it's not NASCAR and it's not rock racing either, but it might just be more entertaining than either. Take a look at the vid and let us know!

The randomly-placed jump ramps are an inspired addition to the track. A bit of Circus Maximus.
Next up: adding a pit of fire!
ps: Posting this truck event on PH reminds me of this campaign with John Cleese. The link I include is not the original advert -- which is even more fun -- but it gets the point across.

I saw these chaps racing as a support race for the Toronto Indy street race a few weeks ago. Utterly fantastic to watch them racing and the general showmanship before and after the actual race was superb. They came out like nutters spinning the things around and did the same as a "celebration" at the end of the race too - literally just going wild for the crowds.
Great, great fun to watch and, dare I say it, better than the Porsche GT3 racing that was before and the Indy 500 race that followed!

They brought the stadium trucks over to Adelaide during the Clipsal 500. Even the press here said the racing was more entertaining than watching the V8's, and I agree. It really worked on a tight street circuit, and watching them pitch and wallow around on 3 wheels was great. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lVvfm-WFpsY
I must be getting old, but I think it would get boring rather quickly. A bit like those stunt motorbikes they have at Wembley stadium every now and then. You look at the poster and think it's the best thing ever, but after watching a couple of bikes fly through the air at ridiculous heights, it gets a bit meh and you just wish they'd have a proper race instead of showing off. Anyway, back to my rocking chair.
