A timely thread given the recent PH rescue smile

I'm looking at european breakdown cover. ADAC don't seem too keen -

thank you for your message and interest in joining ADAC.

Please note that the ADAC (Plus) membership provides a reduced range of services and benefits for members residing outside Germany. The classic membership covers breakdown assistance in

Which has prompted me to look around elsewhere. I've got a quote for a year from startrescue for £58 for the year or £25 for a single trip.

Anyone used them? esp their euro cover? Any other recommendations or should I stick with adac partner plus?

Last 2 years used ADAC but not had to call on them. This year just went AXA for a year policy gets full UK cover from home etc, 31 days Euro cover and as many trips as you want. No need to notify of trips. £66.

I think ADAC got fed up with the numbers of non German residents joining and then breaking down on holiday in Europe, so have put an age limit for cars that are not German registered.

Mrs Underwhelmist has got Start Rescue cover. She's only had to use it once, after getting stranded with a flat battery after work. The bloke turned up quickly and got the car going no problem so on that basis I'd recommend them.

I have an annual MSM policy, they cover older cars.

Last year I had to use them one Sunday evening. They made a potentially stressful breakdown, on the autoroute very bearable.
They discussed repair/repatriation options, liaised with the French garage, and kept me updated whilst the car was getting sorted.

Expenses reclaimed without fuss as soon as I returned home.(Tow off autoroute, rental car, hotel etc)

The missus and myself have a basic policy with them. Had to use it once and had no issues. They just contact a fairly local recovery company. Mine seemed to take ages, but then they got stuck in traffic which couldn't be helped. They seem to be the cheapest on price comparison sites.
