Hi, I am close to applying my 5 digit plate to my new car and would like to try the 13x4.4 plates.
Can anybody who has bought one of these short plates, point me to a supplier who meets the following:
-Must have BS details
-Be clear acyclic faced with printed reflected material on back
-Not cost the earth

Cheers!

Yeah, as long as they meet measurement requirements for edge of plate to edge of the numbers/letters.

I don't mean to be facetious but just buy a hacksaw.

I just cut mine with a hacksaw to the appropriate size after marking with a felt pen.

Just keep in line with the information here from the DVLA.

https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploa...

I used to keep a copy of this in the glove box too, just in case i got a tug from a trigger happy copper. Never did though.

Happy days!

As suggested above, look on eBay. I buy all my plates off eBay these days, they arrive in a couple of days and are to any shape, size, spacing you want and I have never had any of less than perfect quality.

Don't bother with a hacksaw.

Even if you do a really tidy job with a hacksaw at cutting the ends off to shorten it, you will still have to use a file to round off all the 4 corners of each plate into smooth curves and there is the potential to make a botch up of any part of this... Is it worth it to save £18 for a pair?

Thanks for the suggestions. I thought about trimming with a hacksaw, I am quite capable with tools, just was concerned about cutting off the BS markings.

Crikey. As above, the proper legal item, brand new with rounded edges, proper spacing, kite marks, manufacturers details etc is less than a tenner delivered to your door and you are considering using a hacksaw to butcher one that you already have? Hey ho.

That's a bleeding clever hacksaw - it changed the reg number at the same time!

Yep, that's because that was the previous owners plate which has been transferred off, and mine put on smile

How sensible it is depends hugely on your skill level with hand tools. It takes me a few minutes to chop down a plate, round the corners and file a nice neat chamfer on it to make it entirely legal but smaller. My brother would take over an hour to utterly destroy a plate trying to do the same thing.
