My Dad is a petrolhead and was also in the car trade so had a few nice cars over the years. He also did a bit of amateur rallying back in the day. Many memories, in chronological order....:

Being picked up in his Mk5 Cortina to which he'd just fitted Mag wheels (cool)

Him bringing home his new Capri 2.8i Ghia. Which then had smoked headlights covers fitted!

Long drives from relatives in the back of his E30 325i coupe

Sitting in the passenger seat of his restored TR6 as we went round Silverstone on a classic car run. He nearly spun at Stowe, giving it too much berries; I laughed a lot.

Travelling back from the 2000 F1 Grand Prix at Silverstone. He was smoking around in a Peugeot 405 Estate at the time and this was the year where heavy rain meant a lot of the parking at Silverstone was a mud bath.
We were lead out onto the back roads which Dad suddenly announced that he knew very well.
He then proceeded to fling the 405 through said roads with carefree abandon and car control which I never knew he possessed. It takes a lot to get oversteer in France's finest load lugger biggrin

Some great stuff coming through! Just remembered another one, went to watch an England Ireland game at Twickenham in old school late 70s/early 80s idea of corporate hospitality, so booze and sarnies in the stands. After the game, Dad decides to banter his friend who had a Jag XK V12, cue Dad being invited to drive the Jag about a bit. Despite some alcohol consumption I jumped in the back and watched, shouting encouragement, as the 2 of them took turns to blast around Richmond and SW London.

Jaaaaaaaaagggggggg!!!

My dad buying an old faded red Vauxhall Cavalier an S reg and taking the family on holiday, from Glasgow to Torquay, it made it there, but he refused to take us directly to our hotel as it was on a steep hill and he feared it wouldn't make up the hill and back to Glasgow. Other memories are of my dad picking me up in a newely realesed black sierra cosworth and pinning the throttle and me being pinned back in the seat and being unable to stop giggling, then picking my uncle up who had high blood pressure and a fear of speed and the look of fear spread all over his face. My dad also picked me up in a Audi 200 turbo and a Granda Scorpio, at the time these things were so quick they were mind boggling, to put it in perspective my friends dad had an old VW Beattle, it's how I found my love of cars. I wish I could go back to those days, I have lots of old stories from the 80's but not the time or capacity to bore everyone with them.

My Dad once had an MG Montego

Yes, that is the most interesting fact I can bring to this discussion (aside from him once admitting he bought a Ford Corsair aged 16 then wrapped it round a lamppost)

My dad had a new Lancia Delta HF Turbo as a loan car while his car (Isuzu Trooper) was being serviced. He gave it a thorough test with me in the passenger seat keeping a look out for plod.
After we'd tested the whole tank of petrol I was told not to tell my mother.
Happy days!
He's had a series of interesting cars but has stuck to Volvos for the last ten years or so. Auto diesel ones too.
