Lexus F badge. A cool £3633.79 according to Clublexus.
That's incredible. I got a brand new factory engine for an Alfa 156 for less than that a few years ago!

Sorry, I meant to say that they were an option on the standard hot Clio (182,200 or whichever it was).
No they weren't. Trophy only.
One of those two statements is true though, because I already knew exactly what they cost due to an Evo article all about the option at the time. It stuck in my mind because it made me wonder how the quality of dampers varied between cars.

On a recent service, my Aston dealership spotted my front numberplate has a small crack. They quoted £56 for a replacement.

eek wow - nearly £350 for a rear tyre?! I realise the reasons why, but interestingly £350 was pretty much the bill for replacing all four tyres on my 3 series last summer.

Some of these quotes are cringe-worthy!

Makes most of the part prices I've been quoted by dealers sound reasonable..

£320 for an engine sump, sourced for £30 including delivery (although second hand)

Honda S2000 VGS model. (variable geared steering for those not in the know)
Quotes from Hendy Honda were £14500. Yep, £14.5k to be clear. Power steering assistance failed, the rack reverts to it's lowest gearing, which makes it almost undriveable without assistance. Contacted approx. 15 electronic power steering specialists who said they cannot refurb the Honda's Showa units. Sold the car to a friend for a spares/repair price.

Ah, you mean that 'push the stalk up and hold it there with the ignition off' thing it tells you all about in the handbook? wink Assuming it's the same as the 3, that is.

I know somebody who owns a Porsche, whilst perusing the latest models in the Porsche showroom, asked for a replacement bulb as one of his had blown.

The price?

'Free, sir - it would be beneath us to charge for such an item.'

It would be quite amusing to price up the cost of building, say, a Ford Focus from parts sourced entirely from Uncle Henry's Parts Department - at 'retail' of course!
.......Someone calculated this with a Morris Minor years ago. I think the total came to around 1 million pounds !!
