It'll be a bottle of wine and flowers handed over by the receptionist (fit if you're lucky) with the car maybe underneath a sheet in the showroom, and some mock red carpet unveiling to make you feel like a cerlebratee.

Know a guy who works in an Audi bodyshop and is always flat out, so expect better rust protection than normal, with a few smart repairs boshed on too....... Mother in Law got a bottle of bubbly with her top spec A1, but then the silly cow paid list price rather than making the dealer work for the money.

I once brought a new merc and the dealer monkeys decided to valet my car with a scouring pad. The dealer said don't worry we will take it round the back and give it a buff, 25 mins later he returned with a car that looked matt finish.
Needless to say i refused the car and told them to get it into my local independent body shop to have it sorted. End result the car had a full respray which ended up better than it left the factory.
I find that very hard to believe.

If they did a car cover reveal/clapping with me I'd reject the car.
Me too, cringeworthy!

It does sound terrible.

Congratulations Sir, you've just signed a three year lease deal on a car you'll never own! wobble

My idea of a handover is:

Paid the balance due a few days before.
Turn up 30 minutes early to inspect the car without the saleman around.
Sign the DVLA documents.
Sign the dealers docs.
Refuse GAP/Tyre Insurance/GoldSpangledWarranty/PaintProtection again.
Note side of fuel filler cap and any lever to open it.
Ask for anything unusual re: controls.
Keys.
Handshake.

Be prepared to have to sit through the gap insurance / alloy wheel insurance / paint protection etc sales pitch and lose at least an hour of your valuable time while they try to screw some more money out of you and then feel a right muppet at the unveiling. When the OH picked up her Audi, I think the whole process took nearly 2 hours!

Honestly, never had any issues with gap/paint/supaguard or any other add-on - just politely said "I know you have to ask but no thanks" and that was that, ten seconds at the most.

Have they warned you that your new audi will always drive 3 inches away from the car in-front on the motorways?

If I was buying a new car I would just want to go in, pick up they keys and drive out. I would'nt want any fuss, I find it fake and embarrassing just like sales people

Yep, I remember we had the same from VW when we bought our Golf.

I would demand they reveal it from behind a screen and present it to me like I'd just gambled my patio furniture, crystal glass decanter set and 14" colour TV to win it as Bully's Star Prize on Bullseye.

salesman will distract your missus showing her all the "features of the car" whilst the receptionist drags you into the toilets and noshes you off.

our local Ford (Halshaw) dealer have it spot on, car parked at front of showroom a quick explanation on any features controls, help setup phone pairing and a walkround the car checking it over with you pointing out any critical areas quick handshake and away you go, Follow up calls every so often just to make sure your happy and everythings ok. absolutely spot on in my eyes

My last few have been delivered on a flatbed, Usually when it's raining, so the bottom half dirty.
Still, they've all been 3 year leases(strike me down) , so who gives a flying.... I'm never going to own it.

Not on a new car but I wasted over an hour refusing £3000 or more of upselling when I picked up my Volvo last year
