Best handover I had was at the Mercedes factory. Very slick, efficient and a pleasant few hours touring around the factory seeing how it was made.

The Audi experience is very similar to when the wife picked up her Cooper S. Mini included a big bunch of flowers and a box of chocolates when she picked hers up as well.

It's obviously impossible for dealers to get this right for everybody. Some people clearly want the whole big reveal so they feel as though the dealer appreciates the excitement of getting a new car. Other people just want the keys and to get on their way. Seems unfair to criticise the dealer for getting it wrong! Better to do too much than to do too little, IMHO.

Bahaha. What a load of rubbish, I'd hate to have to go through that. Unless they only pull out all the glitzy stuff for anything non-diesel they sell? Then I'd be lapping it up as I danced around the showroom proudly shouting and pointing out to all the other customers that my car didn't have a NOX factory under the bonnet.

My Toyota experience was a little more down-to-earth. I turned up at the dealer with my car parked outside the front. Signed a few bits of paper, got the keys, then spent the next 30 mins walking round the car with the sales rep pointing out that loads of the protective plastic was still stuck all over it. Nicely prepped Toyota, nicely prepped.

The whole thing is cringeworthy. I doubt she could sound much less interested when the service manager is wittering on.

"blah blah blah blah blah, blah blah blah blah."

"Oh right."

"blah blah blah, blah blah, blah blah blah blaaaah."

"oh, okaaaay..."

Ha just caught him describing the freebie 1L of Castrol as "been designed by Audi and Castrol for your PACIFIC car...."

It's to show you how to use "Pushytt Plus", Audis equivalent of BMWs "Bellendtronic"

Christ. Does this sort of stuff really happen?

I can't think of anything more embarrassing than being applauded as I drive off in my new car, or having to sit and listen to the salesman witter on when I just want to get the keys and drive the bloody thing away.

And I'd wince at the potential scratching that whipping off a car cover might cause.

Made me chuckle when explaining the Audi Price Promise for the oil - "If you find this oil cheaper anywhere else we'll refund double the difference. But, it should only be sold at Audi outlets, so I'd be surprised if you did......"

When my mate went to pick up his R8 they had it parked in a special room with a blanket over it. He walked into the showroom, went up to the salesman and told them to get the cover off the car and stop the carry on straight away.

Worst one i've ever heard about was on one of the BMW forums from a guy picking up an M135i. There is a BMW dealership in the UK who has a room with a fake wall. They ask people collecting their new cars to sit and watch a short BMW promo film in said room. When the film ends there are little party popper explosions and the fake wall collapses to reveal their new P&J. I'm cringing just writing about it.

To be honest the surprise party popper is the best handover I've read about! No denying the cringe factor though!

Volvo were great with this, twice.

They had the car waiting in a covered area with all the paperwork and keys present - they handed that over, let me inspect the vehicle, showed me how a few odds and sods worked (which I was familiar with anyway but I would imagine many people wouldn't be), asked if I had any questions (no), shook my hand and let me head off - perfect, quick and easy.

This fanfare st would annoy me, just give me my car damnit!

All these replies put me in mind of the cringe worthy stunts Apple pull when they release 'new' products. All the staff lined up, North Korean style cheering and clapping that never ends, and 'high fives' for passing customers. Worst thing is, people actually seem to join in. Seriously? Lesson here is to buy your overpriced hardware elsewhere... As to whether I mean Apple, Audi, or both - make up your own mind. tongue out

That photo actually made me retch. High fiving customers? Customers allowing or even enjoying being high-fived? Oh lord no.
The thing is, the kind of idiots that are first in the queue for a new Apple product; the ones that have queued outside the store for 4 months, are exactly the kind of pricks that enjoy and lap up all that st.
So their treating their core customers the way they want to be treated???
Madness.

They think its a celebration?

Handing over something that depreciates like a stone, eats £££ in fuel and costs money to service ontop.

Should be a funeral affair with your wallet going into a mini Cremator
I had a big lol at this :-)

Well played.

That would be cool, for sure.

Audi charge for the honour if you buy an R8 I believe.

When you pull the cover off the car, don't forget to neatly fold it up and put it in the boot.

New Lotus S2 Exige and Porsche Cayman S handovers were great. No fuss but still felt good picking them up.

Last pickup was at Halliwell Jones BMW in Warrington. They met me at the train station but I got pi££ed off having to wait to speak to one of the managers trying to flog me gap and tyre insurance.
