So having owned 5 audi a3's, scratching my e46 330ci and now back in a (boring) diesel a3, I have a new itch.

Mileage wise I just take the dog to walks and every 2 months I drive to London and back in a day (600 mile trip).

I have always wanted one and they are cheap right now so I am wondering about a W220 S-Class. More specifically an S600L.

Something like this

Seems like incredible value for just £5k!

Now what are these like to run? Reckon it would do me nicely for my London trips (which are getting more frequent).

Any big expenses to worry over?

Certainly a lot of car for the money..... and mileage is tiny!

I've seen this and it's very tempting with that V12 loveliness. cloud9

The flip side is it's has potentially dodgy pre 2003 face lift electrickery with air suspension and, sadly, that V12 is bound to throw up some expensive problems sooner or later...

Love the alloys on that car, and it's a good colour combo. However, not sure I'd want to buy that type of car from a home trade dealer called "German Whipps".

A facelift S500 would be my choice at that price point though.

There is also this http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2015...

It is newer and some say more reliable, and the hifi is amazing, but the galactic mileage is offputting to say the least.

Yes. A £5,000 slush fund for the likely problems. There's a reason that once-expensive cars are dirt cheap to buy - they can potentially cost a bomb to run.
