Most boring car you've owned?
Discussion
The Audi A3 pool car at work is insufferably dull.
It was truly awful, easily the worst vehicle I've ever driven. The handling in particular was comical; no feel, ridiculously long-winded steering, chronic understeer followed by snap oversteer... This was matched by a truly awful drivetrain, horrific brakes, and countless electrical gremlins.
It wasn't boring though, I really enjoyed driving that little car. Every journey was a challenge to extract the absolute maximum from its performance envelope. I learned far more about driving quickly from that awful little car than from the more driver focused cars I've owned before and after.
Being st made it fun.

The first one I had - a 2-door 1.0 Nova. It's only redeeming feature was that it was black, and back in 1984 that wasn't a common colour.
I ran a NovaVan 1.5D (naturally aspirated) for a year. It was truly awful, easily the worst vehicle I've ever driven. It's a toss up between my first car, a mk 3.5 Vauxhall Astra 1.4 LS or my first new car, a VW Polo 1.4 TDI SE, very much like this one.
The Polo was objectively better in every way: quicker, 50+ mpg, never went wrong in 2.5 years but just had no visual pizazz at all, was uncomfortable and rolled like a fishing boat. I would have preferred the "sportier"-looking (and cheaper) Match but they couldn't get me one, so had to settle for a boring SE instead. The Astra was quicker in 4th than 5th, broke down outside the girl's house that I was trying to impress on day one (she still went out with me but not for long) and the wipers once stopped working whilst driving along in a heavy downpour and it had a banging stereo, which made it a bit more interesting. Plus it was my first car and you can't hate your first car can you?

Current car has a 3.0-litre turbo I6, 285bhp, AWD, and comfy seats wrapped in a not-bad-looking, estate body. It is also the dullest car I've ever owned due to its only talents being wafting, having space for three kids and heated seats whilst hoovering 98RON. It is also in for a bit of maintenance today and I expect wallet-stripping to be another latent talent.

350Z - It didn't do anything particularly well.
Eh? What else have you owned?I think a few 350Z owners will be upset that he thinks they're more boring than an Citroen Saxo Forte or Rover Metro Rio.
I've driven a Metro, and can only assume p4cks rates it a less boring than the 350Z for being actively terrible all the time.
Personally I think my most boring car was the 200SX. It's not that far from the 350Z.
The E30 320 would have been more boring, but my particular one had "I pimp your sister" scratched in the paint down one side and "your mother has a penis" scratched down the other, matte black paint and no front grill - from inside it seemed normal, but you couldn't ignore how other motorists reacted to it. The Astra GTE would also have been boring, had my final drive in it not included total brake failure, plus the digi dash and bonnet vents.

So are you going to tell us what it is?For me, a boring car is the way it makes u feel when you get in as aposed to a fast and how good it looks. I have had maybe 15 cars in my 17 years driving and all of them have been something fruity, never had a slow car. But I have recently bought a 20k Audi s3 dsg. This is the most I've spent on a car so far 😉. Chucked a Milltek on it the raise the noise level and it's still boring. I don't know if it the dsg and the Quattro but it doesn't give a lot of excitement. I didn't realise till now owning the car, that boring isn't just a Dacia duster or whatever I need a sense of enjoyment when I jump in it. It is a family hag for the missis and she uses it for work so I only get it at weekends it has to be said though.

So are you going to tell us what it is?Ooh, I've owned loads of crap. 2 306 Dturbos, a gutless 528i auto (that also did 15mpg), A c2 vtr that I bought the week they came out and sold it within 2 months.
One of the worst was a Fiat coupe 16v, non turbo. With tiny standard wheels. So unbelievably slow and dull for a car that looks like that. Thankfully it was a stop gap between 2 20v turbos.

1998 Subaru Forester, the ordinary petrol powered normally aspirated cooking version. Tedious. Great in snow but little else. Reliable but had an appetite for rear dampers and wheel bearings. Its shape was reminiscent of Postman Pat's van.

Very similar to the OP: Toyota Avensis 1.8 VVTI. Actually my gf's car, but whatever. Comfortable enough place to sit, engine could be revved, but soooo dull to drive, with slow and vague steering. Also a pain to park because of the surprisingly large turning circle.
It was very reliable in the short time we had it, apart from using a bit of oil, but it made our Focus estate feel like a race car.

I know what you mean, I had a DSG Golf GTI and it was extremely dull. I think a lot of it is the auto boxGassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
