Drove past the local Audi dealer earlier this evening and a sign-written A5 caught my eye, but when I realised what it was I had to stop and photograph it for here. biggrin Seems the chap who bought it isn't very happy with the Vorsprung durch Technik, to say the least. eek

I've subsequently done some Googling and seen it's been covered in the national press, but I've done a search and couldn't find any mention of it on PH.

While I've seen it before, I do chuckle at the thought of the local Europcar hastily hiding all their Audi fleet away.

I don't know the ins and outs of this incident, but given the effort the guy's taken to publicise his plight, it's obviously something serious. I'm not an Audi fan anyway, but I hope the chap gets/has got the (sensible) outcome he wanted.

Poor DM article. No mention of how much he earns or how much his house is worth.

Also, Audi has offered to fix his car for free and have said previously for customers to contact them, which was also on BBC WatchDog.

Not sure what he is now trying to achieve tbh.

I see what you mean re: DM link - how am I supposed to decide whether he deserving of pity without knowing his salary. Still, at least we know the car can go 150 ( when not being filled with oil) and, more usefully, what Tsfi means.

The art suggests however he is after some sort of legal decision on the condition of his car.

I recall from the 90s loads of VAG customers being cheesed off that USA class action laws had ruled watercooled engine faults must be repaired, yet in the UK there wasn't a single case of any compulsory rectification of a car.

Brands like Vag rely on fixing them voluntarily, but this does leave drivers at the mercy of dealer whims.

As an example, I was researching Skoda tfsi cars and one chap's engine had failed, but VAG saw facebook footage of him either at the pod, or a track day (can't recall which) and they flat refused any liability (several grand to fix).

If this guy does establish a legal basis of some cars not being fit for purpose, he will be doing a fair few people a favour (but not those employed by VAG perhaps).

Audi have been settling these claim for free for about 12 months

No idea what his point is !

They are even paying back the money if the owner had to pay at the time ( ie before they started paying for the repairs)

Just like the MINI owners who are treated differently in the UK v. USA re: power steering pumps.

Judging by what's written on the window posters he would appear to have beef with Chelmsford Audi.

The USA has a lot of negative points but customers getting redress against car manufacturers isn't one of them.
Over here the major manufacturers frequently treat the buyers of their product with utter contempt.
It is only when the media or consumer champions get involved that they belatedly get off their fat corporate backsides.
The legislation which makes the selling dealer responsible allows them to get away with it.
A franchise has no incentive to bite the hand of the company which provides it with its daily bread.

Again with Mazda, in the USA there was a lot of jumping up and down regarding rust on the RX8's. Mazda did a recall on them in the US if signs of rust were showing. As far as I know this never happened in the UK.

Early drive by wire Volvo T5s suffered premature throttle body failure. Subject to a recall in the US, not here though.

I'm firmly in the "No publicity is bad publicity" camp.

I'll bet this dealer benefits from the additional interest this generates in the business and far from it hitting Audi sales it'll not make a bit of difference.

Shame VAG are not doing the same for their other brands which use similar engines - my 2010 1.8 TSI Skoda uses gallons of the stuff, and they won't even look at it without me having to shell out for it.
