Surely Woking's special vehicle operation might be persuaded to glue one together for you? Epic car and very high on the "who needs 2 kidneys" list!
I've contacted them, we'll see...

I'm surprised how much more I like the look of the longtail vs the 650S. They look very similar yet somehow the proportions seems 'right' with the LT.

Above all, just pleased at how Mclaren have been able to bring new and better iterations of the original (excellent) design to market so quickly.
I pretty much agree with that. To me, the LT looks right on the money. McLaren sem to have improved this car in every discernible way.

Dry masses:
650S: 1,330 kg
488 GTB: 1,370 kg

That's 40kg. Even the 458 was only 65 kg more massive.

Love it.

Just hope that in ten years time I can maybe, just maybe, afford a high-mileage low-spec fourth-hand car.

Fingers crossed.

A proper colour certainly helps, but it's still not a looker. Far too fussy with all that bloody carbon!

We've peaked with the 458 speciale - a car so good and final it'll double in value every 5 years for the next 20! With these turbo engines you know they're sandbagging (if that's the correct term). The speciale's 600bhp from 4.5l was realistically as much as they could get, whereas the outputs of the 488 and 675 might as well have been decided by marketing. Watch as the facelift of each magically has another 50bhp... yawn.

I just find it boring. It's artificial. The technology isn't the limiting factor with turbocharging; making sure the next model can be justified is the primary aim.

Nice car for what it is, if you're into that.

Looks damn good and a best overall design so far.

The question is will PH admit it it better than the beloved GT3. If nothing else the rear wing actuates which would appear very sensible. No lack of fun, speed and performance. Does it equal character at last.

McLaren seem to have come a long way.

Question is when then have vanquished the large sports cars to come from this set up will they use or downsize the tub for something more Exige or Evora sized?

What is next.

Looks a lot better from behind which is luckily the view most people will get of it.

Think you will find most real world fully fuelled weights of the 458 are far nearer 1600 kg than 1500kg and it's claimed to be 10kg heavier than the 488. Amusingly enough I was told Ferrari quote kerb weights as all fluids but with no fuel while typically kerb weights are 90% fuel and all fluids....

The 12c weighs ~1470kg fully fueled (actual car not manufacturer claim) albeit with a smaller fuel tank. The 675 likely will come in 100+kg below the Speciale and quite possibly nearly 200kg lighter than the 488 on the road.

I get the appeal of a great n/a completely but do not see turbocharging as a just cynical marketing exercise. It's a perfectly reasonable response to current and expected car legislation and offers measurable advantages vs n/a.

Let's not forget that some of the most exciting cars of the last few decades have been turbocharged; or that it has, at times, been associated with the 'peak' or vanguard of performance cars itself (288GTO? 959? original 930 Turbo?). Why shouldn't it again?

Love it, I'm sorely tempted by the more understated 'Geneva launch' Chicane grey with orange accents than the garish bright colours over the whole body.

Think I will be going for the Chris Goodwin performance pack with the Ti roll bar etc and all carbon fetish pieces though the big question is to roof scoop or not to roof scoop!! cloud9

Interesting, do you have any sources which substantiate this?

The best direct comparison where actual weights were taken I found here:

From Car and Driver: http://www.caranddriver.com/comparisons/2011-ferra...

The claimed Kerb weight is 1495 kg (- 13 kg).

There's no real discrepency there for Ferrari and McLaren.

To those who are trying to compare it to the Tesla P85D, fawning over that cars (admittedly incredible) 0-60 time: please refer to last months Top Gear magazine where they tested 18 cars around the Red Bull Track in Austria.

The Tesla was second SLOWEST around the track, being beaten by not only a Megane Trophy R and a Range Rover Sport SVR, but also a VW Golf R ESTATE and a Mini Cooper JCW!!!

It was 12 seconds slower than a Merc C63 AMG, meaning it would be lapped by the Merc in less than 10 laps, so uhh, yeah - incredible acceleration, no doubt about that, but the words 'Pony', 'Trick' and 'One' come to mind at the moment!

Though I've no doubt when the new Tesla roadster arrives in 2019, the results may be somewhat different - but today, I'll take the Macca any day!

Swiss mag that put various cars on scales a few years ago I believe so actual weights rather than merely quoting manufacturer weights as per most mags. And a few other posts on various forums where people have weighed their cars where I don't believe I have ever seen anyone who has ever found a 458 coupe below 1550kg (if that).

The 12c weight quoted at ~1470kg is my car which was put on some corner scales about 2 years ago and for sure my car isn't the lightest spec around.

The person who rated it a "1" is probably the same cretin who thinks the Tesla P85 is a better performance car. The 675LT is seriously exciting and I can't think of anything to rival it south of the hypercars.

0-200kph
675LT 7.9s
P85D 16s

The tesla isn't even value for money at its own price point.
17.7 seconds for the Tesla in fact
