I think early 996s with the gingercators and original wheels look fantastic. More so now than when they were new.

That car won't hang around long if it's in order in the flesh....

Funny how 996s were almost universally hated a few years ago for their styling

I'm not a fan. Ive always liked 996 styling but prefer the 996.2 headlights, which was partly why i bought one. I think teh front end styling of the 996.1 looks better on the 986 Boxster.

The fried egg headlights are a problem. But it's not just that. The 911 looks just like a "cheap" Boxster from the front.

And I happen to think the interior is atrocious.

Some say, "Boxster Jesus" saved Porsche, and raised it from the dead. Without the Boxster (and the Cayenne), it is highly unlikely Porsche would be in business today...

How is that barried?

It's basically an Aerokit 996.1 with a ducktail instead of the rear spoiler, and a set of Fuchs-style wheels. Hardly a heavy and "unorthodox" makeover.

As the 996.1 is not much of a looker you might just be better off going for the suspension upgrades and engine refresh/tuning rather than splashing out on retro upholstery and some Fat Fuchs. Say £25k turn-key?

I think 996 is a very beautiful car. I even love this retro package (And RPM in general). It is a shame tho that their engines are made from chocolate. That is the biggest reason why i don't change my car for porker.

I am fortunate enough to own a c2 964 and 997 gt3. I am also fortunate enough to have driven a rpm 996csr, the csr is a different animal to the base 996, the drivability of them is fantastic. Styling is subjective.... I however like what they have done and if I thought I could get away with ownership of a retro 996 csr I would be in one.

Whilst there will always be detractors, this a great addition to the already excellent RPM stable. We should welcome such choices.

Catch them while you can at 11k, the teardrop shaped 996 lights look much better than the gen2 fried eggs, a clean c2 on ambers is a nice thing and the shape is ageing well IMO.

Ten years from now I'm going to kick myself for not hoarding 996's.

Heck, I'm kicking myself now. There's still time though...

the cost - moral and financial - of chopping up nice Carreras becomes untenable for many.
Try telling that to RWB.

That man will literally cut up every last 964 and 993 on the planet.

11k? A friend in the trade is now buying them in private sales for 7-8k.
