I'm not sure I really care why they do it.

The issue is the way these cars are driven around. There are god knows how many videos of people speeding down narrow streets in Central London, like complete and utter s. In tow are a bunch of teenagers with their phones, ready to upload the footage to YouTube. It happens time and time again, yet for the most part not a lot is done about it.

Who gives a st how much money they have, or where they drive their cars? It's the manner that they do it in and how the law seemingly doesn't apply to them. Someone else hit the nail on the head, a guy got done for racing around in his Atom, there was huge amounts of coverage on that story, yet we don't hear about these guys in London getting done?

This is just the sharp end of whats wrong with society. A lot of these dudes make their money, and pay for their cars, in support of regeimes that execute 'witches', journalists, 'adulterers', all while committing great crimes themselves (not to mention the crime of executing 'witches').

I love cars, and super cars, always have. I know they're impractical, noisey, dangerous (often), expensive, wastful and poluting, and that's all fine when there's justice being served more widely. The fact that some dudes were lucky enough to be born on one side of an infinately corrupt and injust system isn't cause for celebration and I feel it's a shame to see the 'supercar' reduced to such a thing.

The practice of driving expesnive, noisy, wasteful, cars around London highlights so many fundamental problems with the world. Polution, congestion, the privatisation of public space (in London this is done by making everything impossibly expensive). Essentially, residents are reduced to second class citizens who must obey laws that others do not.

Just my 10 cent.

I don't like modern supercars. The last "supercars" I liked were the Ferrari 288 GTO, 308 GTB/S, 348, 355 and F40. Lambo's have never done it for me, and I find the modern supercars a bit vulgar. I have no desire to own a supercar. The only reason I'd have one is to show off, and I don't need to do that, or desire to do that. I'll stick with the crappy cars I like.

I cannot afford a supercar either, but I'm not jealous of people who can.
I agree. I appreciate them, and I love seeing them, but I'm not sure I could own one. Whenever I go to London, my phone is full of photos of classic Mercedes' (how amazing does a classic Mercedes look in the city?!), classic Rolls Royce and the odd Ferrari.

And whilst we're on the subject....

No it isn't sad. Why do you think males of most species have to do things to impress females to get mating rights with the most 'nubile' ones? What you've described is simply human biology/gynocentrism in its most basic form.

Man with wealth=status=attractive to many 20-somethings. Man who can afford excessively expensive car=man with surplus wealth=attractive to many 20-somethings. A man able to provide a lot will be sought after by many 20-somethings.

'Twas ever thus and ever thus shall be.

I don't know what the problem is with people taking photos of the cars... It's not like we don't have long running threads of photos of nice cars people have seen on PH. If these people want to drive supercars round London, for whatever reason, then that's up to them.

My only issue with them is the tttish driving you see from some. Yes, the engine may sound very nice with a blip of throttle, but not when you have 10 going past in an hour, blipping again and again, or hammering off every set of lights with no regard for the fact that they are in one of the busiest cities in the world.

I really love strolling some of the streets of London when we visit, and snapping pictures of daily driven treasures like the Merc above, or Bristols which have seen service for generations of the same double barrelled name old money.

Yeah the V8V probably doesn't cut the mustard. And it's always dirty.
And I avoid Knightsbridge and especially Harrods and surroundings like the plague.

All I seem to attract is pissed/jealous chavs who like to key my car and play rugby with its mirrors frown

Speaking for those of us that believe in working hard to achieve goals, what you said is nonsense.

These guys (all blokes, go figure!) come over from the middle east to show off (why else would you drive around in circles on some of the worlds most congested roads) and break all the rules of their homeland by drinking alcohol and sh*gging escorts.

Certainly lovely to see such amazing motors close up, no one should be deprived of that, but what you touched on is something completely different.

I'm certainly not jealous that I don't have inherited wealth from daddies oil business! I'd rather make it on my own.

Without the 911 and Merc in the picture, this could have been taken decades ago smile

No doubt Shmee will be running around London like a lunatic with his go pro......

Id go mental if I lived in London and had to put up with supercar season but I am northern and it took me about 2 years to adjust to life in Surrey so maybe people are not bothered by it? IDK.

Shmee and his like are part of the problem IMO. Giving the attention seekers a platform online and pretty much promoting dangerous driving. The excuse being they're rare and exotic cars.

There was a show on Channel 4 once that did cover this exact issue I think. From what I remember they took the opinions of locals (and well to do ones at that) and the Arabs that come over every summer.

I don't give a fk where people take their exotic, rare, expensive cars, as long I as I get to see them that's fine by me.

I have far more of an issue with those of you that have a problem with it. Perhaps it is you that has the problem, not them.

If you gave me a st ton of money I'd buy them and I'd take them any where. Just because they've been seen in London doesn't mean they haven't gone elsewhere.....

The vloggers are just as bad at seeking attention too. Footage rom today showing a UK R8 thrashing it around London just because it has a noisy exhaust, trying to mix it with Zondas and Enzos...kind of like bringing a knife to a gun fight! Looks like a right t!t. Some of these vloggers are no better than the guys importing cars in, many are living off parents, claiming they work hard getting up at 8.30am and going into work for 2 hours, then driving around on supercars they claim to be their own, but still, looks like fun for them and brings these exotics to the masses.

This guys come over here and import their cars to drive in circles.
They cant drive.
They dont deserve their cars.
They clog our roads.
They seek some sort of freedom from the shackles of their wealth from their home country.

What pish.

They are probably living lives you can only dream of. They proabably have track slags of lesser machinery such a 911 Turbo's and have probably done more tours of europe in their Grand Tourismo cars then you have had hot dinners.

Just be glad that they have brought these cars over for all of us to see and enjoy. So what they rev up their Zonda?! I am not going to say a revving Zonda is bad sound.

None of you live next to them anyway. Its other rich people complaining about these rich people.

They treat Harrods and the surrounding area as many treat the Ace cafe or the local Tesco hang out.

Stop the hate. Its fking boring.
Speaking from afar in impoverished Ireland, I hope that HM Customs and Excise is taking every opportunity to extract the odd grand or 10 from the accounts of the (fairly-price-inelastic-i-would-assume) summer tourists with their cars ("Congestion Charge" donchaknow)

I very good friend who I ride motorbikes with drives a lot of supercars through friends and business. He constantly gets women asking for a ride or chatting him up. He even gets young 20 somethings following him and asking for a ride.

Its sad but we are a material society.
I think it's more to do with the fact that when women see a man in what looks like an expensive car to them, all they can think of is money hence the attention. Women are just as if not more shallow than men. Back to the OP, as has been previously mentioned in the thread, they thrive off attention. But yes there are better ways to waste your money than driving through a congested city acting like a pratt.

I rarely go to the zoo anymore. A caged tiger is an interesting but also sad sight.
Does that answer your question?

Personally I can't imagine how London has become the hot spot for this. I would have had my bets on northern Italy or Marbella but those spots are full of the same flock of gents and girls, just of other tribes. How the arabs chose London? Some kind of Dodi meme?

If we don't want them to do that and possibly shag some xxx we "just" have to reform ourselves. Just move to electric and use a car that does not run on the evil black stuff but on rays of light...

It'll attract chicks alright, just other ones. You got to be prepared for conversation...

Now I love seeing a supercar as much as the next man and indeed can but dream of owning such a toy. However, when I see the legions of cars flown in to London each summer, surely I can't be the only one thinking.. What a waste!

These chaps have all the money in the world and clearly love cars should they not spend their summers spanking them across race tracks in Europe or on continental drives through stunning scenery which is what I would do.

...or am I missing something (blatant exhibitions of wealth aside)?
Sitting in central London all summer revving an engine wouldn't be top of my list of things to do with a laferrari but then I'm not the son of a billionaire oil sheik and I have lost my virginity.

It's a trend I guess. I hung out in car parks and rode my skateboard in my youth. They clearly have a bigger playground and budget.

Benidorm probably said the same thing about me when I went there at 17 and puked up litres of cheap vodka every night on repeat for two weeks. I thought that was a holiday.

I think the vlogging thing is a really sad reflection on us. I am hating the game, not the players here, but I mean come on.... when some shaky footage of an Arabian chariot from a cheap action cam can net you enough money to buy your own super car, I think somethings wrong with society. There's useless services and non-jobs in the government, then theres vlogging supercars outside Harrods for a living. That there are enough people to log on to YT to come a watch it and enable its perpetuation is sad IMO.
