Now I love seeing a supercar as much as the next man and indeed can but dream of owning such a toy. However, when I see the legions of cars flown in to London each summer, surely I can't be the only one thinking.. What a waste!

These chaps have all the money in the world and clearly love cars should they not spend their summers spanking them across race tracks in Europe or on continental drives through stunning scenery which is what I would do.

...or am I missing something (blatant exhibitions of wealth aside)?

It's just a fact that most supercars will be bought by tw@ts. But without these tw@ts the cars would not exist and the world would be a duller place.

I think it's great. I wouldn't drive one around London but nice to see them when walking around London.

I love the cars but don't see the attraction of driving them around London either.

Most come to London because they have homes there and enjoy urban centres because they have no experience of rural locations and many would have no idea about track days, great driving tours and the wonder of trans European adventures. They live in urban areas, rarely drive their cars hard and wont leave central London.

Maybe a lot of them have jobs and have to stay in London to work?? Or maybe it's just because London is where they live??

Probably not the foreign plated ones, but I'm sure a lot of the UK plated ones live in London and work there. Same as asking why you see people walking around the streets of Shorpe when surely they could be off sunning themselves in Sicily.

Because northerners have no taste, surely?

These people are vapid and narcissistic. They exist in London because they survive on people 'seeing them'. End of story.

Slightly OT, but I once met a distant relative like this, who asked if he could have a passenger ride in my M3. I wanted to drive him on B-roads, but all he wanted to do was drive through the city centre. I refused.

I have nearly managed to get swmbo onside with this one.

Only time I have driven through the west end just for a cruise was on Christmas morning to see the lights. They were st. The roads were nice and empty though and i didn't have to pay the congestion charge.

Also a bit OT; a mate had one of the first ever Audi TTs in the country and picked me up at lunch for a beer and catch up. The attention it got from people when driving through my town made me feel uncomfortable. Not sure I could put up with the supercar attention.

London is great for tunnel runs and the noise bouncing off the walls. What's not to like? I don't live in the city, I don't have a super car, but when I had a Clio v6 the noise of the thing going through the tunnels was immense. Drive it, enjoy it.

Puts a smile on my face when I see someone enjoying there super car in London.

I love seeing the cars in the West End, you get yo see them up close and other than going to a motor show you will struggle to see so many in a short time.

I wouldn't imagine the owners are really into cars though. They are really into attention seeking and the car is a means to that end. Go behind Harrods and you'll see the amount of attention they get, passers by filming, people stopping in their tracks but most importantly WIMMIN!

WIMMIN, literally throwing themselves at the owners, writing their numbers on the screen with their Number 7 lippy, dropping a "Business card" into a window and fawning all over the cars and drivers.

That's what they want. To be the centre of attention, to draw a crowd, to say look at what I've got. And for them it does the job. It's shallow, it's vacuous and its brash but there are plenty like that and don't think it's only Arab playboys, there are plenty of TOWIE types at it or a downgraded version in most UK towns.

Usually they are avoiding the 45 celcius summer heat, they also avoid the worst of ramadan, finally they can behave in a way that wouldn't be tolerated at home

It's their version of magaluf, benidorm and other hellholes

I'm sure that I am going to get told to hand in my PH card, but.....

I don't like modern supercars. The last "supercars" I liked were the Ferrari 288 GTO, 308 GTB/S, 348, 355 and F40. Lambo's have never done it for me, and I find the modern supercars a bit vulgar. I have no desire to own a supercar. The only reason I'd have one is to show off, and I don't need to do that, or desire to do that. I'll stick with the crappy cars I like.

I cannot afford a supercar either, but I'm not jealous of people who can.

Disgusting WAG-ish behaviour really.

Where specifically is this happening, what times are best, so I can make sure I can avoid it?

Seriously guys where should I be going in London to get these "business cards"? Asking for a friend.

My friend is getting no action at all doing laps of the town centre here, and he had to wait by the car all aloof for ages yesterday before anyone came over, and when they did they just wanted their bloody kid to sit in it. No hotties whatsoever. This is not what he was promised when he bought it. Apparently. I wasn't there, remember.

Can't say that this has ever happened to me (well only once), although I've been driving an Aston as a daily in central London for the past 4 years.
