Great! I only just learned about PID in the most basic sense yesterday so it'd be cool to actually use it.

couple of Qs though

how many cars can you run on one track?
can the AI cars overtake intelligently ? or do they just follow a circuit?
is there a maximum track length?
I cannot see there being any limits to track size / length as they are battery powered and radio controlled.

I'd reccomend Ankidrive. Played it loads when I bought it with mates. its awesome fun. havent had it out for ages though!

Ankidrive cars have weapon systems, this one doesnt appear to have. The weapons are the most fun part of Anki!

This is ALOT cheaper than though.

In 'practice' mode, you can have as many cars on the track as you like. In 'Championship' Mode, which is where you race over a set number of laps, with pit lane call-ins & track hazards etc, you can set up a race with up to 4 players

When racing, the AI in the cars only 'assists' you round the track, so you are still in control of the steering. It's a little hard to explain, but basically just makes you a much better driver than you could be without it! When the car is put into 'Pace Car' Mode, it drives around completely autonomously, but will not attempt to overtake you.

The maximum track length is only limited by whether you stay in range between the car & controller!

Does the pace car follow the "outside" of the corners like the AI car in the video linked above (so almost the opposite of a racing line)?

Sorry, it got me thinking... I have to get one of these when I can, I've got a crazy idea going in my head about a car that learns the track by driving on the red boundary lines and then runs around the track a bunch "trying" different things to minimise its laptime, rather than it just being concerned with the inch in front of its wheels...

The car tries to find the 50% shade on the track surface. As the track gets towards very dark or very light the steering turns tighter / less depending on the corner / position.

What you describe above would take a fair amount of extra work :-)

I've setup a Facebook group for owners people to share videos / ideas. I started it with some behind the scenes shots from the TV advert filming day. I was one of the pro drivers doing the stunts with the cars whilst the actors pretended to drive them :-) https://www.facebook.com/groups/1455182458108297/?...

Got this for the kids as an xmas prezzy.

Great fun, although the cars are much faster and handle better in r/c mode.

Once we started getting good laptimes we questiined the "drift" ability mentioned in the box. There is no mention of it in the manual either.

But the waay tye wheels attach is great, you can just pop em off.

So we did that, added some sellotape to the rear wheels and boo yahh!!! Job done.. drifty goodness.

Also fixes the chronic underster on carpet due to the locked rear diff.

So far.. love it!! Already killed a set of batteries in the cars haha smile

Thanks for this, just ordered a set.

After a bit of digging, I've found it has been licensed by Hotwheels, hence why the Real FX branded product being cleared.

Ordered mine for collection at Argos, tomorrow, for my little brother.

Some of the reviews on their site aren't glowing but will give it a go for the money!

Set my one up Saturday night, it is brilliant in my opinion. Very impressed.

presumably you can link several sets up for bigger track / more cars? - at that price, seems rude not to get two! wink
