Toyo R1R
Pretty decent tyre, one below the R888 in Toyo's lineup I think
Toyo is the single worst tyre brand I've ever had on any cars I've driven, it was factory fitted on some of my company cars. Poor grip under any conditions.Pretty decent tyre, one below the R888 in Toyo's lineup I think
Once working for the "good handling" car company we've organised a product event featuring competitor vehicles, and on one of those slippery test sections we were planning to demonstrate the usefulness of ESP against a "bad handling" car company's model without ESP.
Then the guests started to come back to report that the car without ESP was much better - tried it, and they were right. The difference?
Car with ESP had Toyo Proxes, the car without ESP Michelin Pilot Exalto...

Thread on seatcupra.net suggest they know who it was. Understandably they want it kept quiet for now.
Saw that. Sad news. optimal909 said:

Funny I have had the exact opposite. Found the T1R's on the Tuscan to be way better than the Bridgestones that were on it before and ones on my MG handle far better than the Michelins it came with. Beautiful road. But not a lot of room for error (technical, human or what ever). RIP lads.
PS: press release from Austrian police says initial eyewitness reports suggested a race. They started a search for the Porsche driver, but he contacted police first because he was worried that the lads in the Leon did not turn up at a meeting point. ORF story seems to be accurate, wish the rest of the rags would drop the sensationalist rubbish.

Still calling it an illegal race though. Bloody hell.http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3173276/Tw...
Sadly on this type of event, and even events with far less organisation, many drivers will drive these routes 'competitivly' and exceed both speed limits and safety limits. Lets face it, they arent there for the views are they?
Clearly this isn't a 'race' in the dictionary terms, but also clearly I think it's safe to say that excessive speed will undoubtedly have played a major factor.
The language barriers probably promote the term 'race' when we all know it should be 'rally' or even something less controversial. But let's not kid ourselves.... These guys were probably having "a right laugh" up until they left he road.
I believe the accident happened early morning? Possibly hit a shaded part of the road that had moisture or even a hint of ice (yes it gets bloody cold at altitude even in July) or maybe the tyres let them down.
