I'm sure they could have hit 90mph before the corner, but what's not clear is why someone is saying that 30kph would be the permitted/advised/allowed/legal speed at that point, as there's no signage to show that other than a red triangle painted on the road (maybe that is enough by Austrian law, I don't know).

In any case, as someone has pointed out, the actual speed limit is largely irrelevant as anyone driving that road should be regulating their speed in accordance with what's coming up ahead, the conditions, their car's stopping power and their own driving ability.

Not looking and planning ahead is the most important driving skill lacking in the majority of drivers of all ages.

Scan left on the webcam to the car park on the opposite side of the hill and drop back to 6.40am.. is this them? I can't work out if this would be a Leon or not. Certainly a black or blue car..

The dark wheels, vehicle shape and colour scheme suggest it is very possible.

That's really early to be out and about, considering they had to drive there from their hotel in the first place. Their videos suggested there was partying on previous evenings so perhaps that played a part also given the very early rise.

So many possible causes but each of them point towards a looming disaster unfortunately.

Who was at the wheel? do we know? was it the cars owner or the passenger having a go?

Car needs good tyres shocker.

As i said before, my rev 1 on 16 inch wheels with a decent geo set up was as solid as a rock, I would run out of balls long before the car was at its limits. To lose control in one, you must have been driving like a lunatic, or as said before, it was broken.

Turbo is a different animal, but to lose it in an NA suggests driving it like you're playing GTA.
Thinking about it i never had one let go on standard wheels but i had both N/A and turbo let go on aftermarket 17"
Turbo was on a staggered fitment et32 front et30 rear 17j if i remember.
N/A was on non staggered 17" set up

If it is 80 kph then they weren't doing five times that speed. That corner doesn't look appropriate for even 80 kph never mind more.

It does very much look like this was the last image of them alive.

Looks like part of the front bumper / valance is missing ? there were reports of a front end accident the previous day was there not?

Perhaps a mechanical failure isn't as unlikely as it seems. If the steering or suspension took a whack in a previous incident it could have let go at the wrong moment

Or the aerodynamics of the front end were upset by the missing valance? causing front end lift at speed?

I continue to read this thread with what feels uncomfortably like morbid fascination.

They'd clearly had some sort of reasonably significant clout at the front, even from that fuzzy image. It's a bit late to be giving out advice now.

I doubt you'd say that as you were hurtling through the air awaiting the obviously fatal impact when you hit the bottom, which is almost certainly what these poor lads experienced just before they died. frown

Horrific.

It is, but I get the sentiment: if you're going to go, you might as well be doing something you're enjoying. However, probably a thought best kept out of the thread smile
It is, I suspect, how a lot of people who indulge in high risk activities think. Other than the 'it won't happen to me' of course.
The problem really is the families left behind, and the people who have to clear up the mess.

You really think it would make that much of a difference?

At speed yes the air would be going under the front not directed around it by valance & splitter creating lift at worst light fromt end steering at best. Although it is a front engined car.

Any speed with which aerodynamic effect would take place would mean they were hopelessly too fast to make the corner regardless.

I honestly can't make out if the car looks damaged or if it's just a low res grainy image. I can't make out if it even look like a Leon never mind that I can't see the event stickers down the side of the car like in previous photos of them.

The picture looks like an older Renault Megane in a much deeper blue than their Seat.
