Hi I've commented on many many threads on here AGAINGST glorifying speeding - just visit SPL forum on here. I hate speeders but in noway can you class or accurately predict what speeds they were doing up there. On a dangerous mountain road in Majorca recently I had 'tyre squeel' on a few bends. That's the tyres being strained on right turns and just because they 'sped' from the hotel means nothing.

RIP. Two bloody young and I'm also sick of the fast and furious films on a wider note. These lads were enjoying a mountain grand tour IMO and as far as I or anyone knows.
IIRC they had posted some videos which weren't exactly "grand touring".
Regarding the deceptiveness of the bend, wasn't it their second run through it?

I'm sure many posters in this thread have driven that road, or similar roads.

Some people just don't have a well adjusted sense of self preservation - you see videos and hear of people 'hooning' on roads like that and getting away with it. These lads will have seen this and probably didn't fully realise the dangers.

I have to say it - but those kind of roads absolutely terrify me. I can just about keep my head together in a car - but some roads I've rideen in that region on a motorbike have nearly had me getting off the bike and pushing it up the mountain!

Even where there are barriers, they are very often flimsy wooden things, which appear to be there to stop any pedestrians walking off the edge - they'd never stop a car.

Everyone has pushed their luck at some point, others result in just a spin and no impact with anything else, others could be into a ditch or a bank.

Whilst they were pushing on, and going for it, guess no one will ever know the exact circumstances of what happened, just a major shame for their friends and family that it happened.

I agree. Younger minds don't think through consequence etc.

I made a few mistakes when I was younger going too fast round a few corners but luckily nothing went wrong. Could have though and I did learn a lesson.

Certainly they did nothing that many on here haven't done (including myself) but they payed the ultimate price.

I bet lots of us have tales of 'moments' we tell to others knowing it(they) were stupid moments but with a sense of having done something exciting. I have one of boiling my brake fluid on a mountain pass into a hairpin and running off the road, fortunately into a field, but every time I meet the others in the car, we have a chat about the brake disks glowing bright red with small flames and how we were so stupid, but got away with it (aren't we clever).

Trouble is, it tends to go wrong when others are involved. You push harder, take more risks, and a tour with others in performance cars will tend to encourage a bit of speed.

Human nature.

We've all had moments of common sense fail. I can't fault them.

It could have been a combination of factors and it could have been mechanical who knows. I just don't like media/journalists putting 2+2 together when it might have been 2+1.75 in reality.

It's the coroner's court that puts it together with all the information available.

I'm intrigued, given the technology available, you'd think they'd of been able to work out how fast they where going from the trajectory to the first impact .

I don't think seatbelts or even race harnesses would have made a dab of difference tbh

If anything, survival odds may have been better NOT wearing a seat belt.
Honestly, I'd rather be thrown from the car than squashed in that heap. Jesus.

I've had two touring holidays in Austria and Bavaria since reading about this accident, and had it in mind both times when enjoying the moment on the passes. So, at least they have possibly made a difference to at least one life.

Of course, nobody on PH has ever made a mistake on the road. Nobody has ever broken the speed limit or has been at the mercy of the courts for various infringements of the Highway Code? Never, none of us rolleyes

Because we're all so talented lucky.

However, I would pretty much guarantee that nobody reading this thread has died from driving off a cliff like these idiots did.

Cannot feel sorry for them but feel desperately sorry for all the family and friends they have left behind who have to deal with the consequences of their actions.

This whole thread is a clusterfk of posturing and nasty sniping comments about two people who are dead.

We know exactly why they are dead, we just do not know the minute detail.

They drove off a cliff. I doubt they were driving any more sensibly that day than their videos from the previous days demonstrated.

If you're upset by that, get over it.

No, no we don't and that's just the point; much supposition and guesswork but no facts. All we know is they are dead...who knows maybe they swerved to avoid a cyclist in the wrong place and the cyclist hasn't come forward.

I'm not upset I just think there is no harm in showing a little empathy, particularly when all the facts are not available.

The official inquest has said they were 'racing' has it not? therefore, its recorded as a fact.

Definition of racing though is upsetting some people. The laymans terms it probably best described as 'driving in a reckless manner at high speed' or something similar.

That's the official reason they were there though wasn't it; Great European Rally...so not a hard 'fact' to record?

My point still stands though; only whoever was there at the time really knows what happened and they are dead.
