Which is why there's an inquest to look at the facts that are available, and make an official decision on what happened.
It was a single-vehicle incident. There was enough speed to take their car through a barrier. And that official decision was that Robinson lost control of the car in circumstances reports as "while racing" the Porsche. I've not read the transcript of the verdict. You've not read the transcript of the verdict. All we know is some bare facts plus a whole pile of hearsay around the edges, which nobody really seems to have any counter to.

Everything, added together, looks fairly conclusive from where I'm sat.

Sure, there's minor details - were they wearing belts or not, was there a mechanical problem or not - which we'll never know. But they don't actually change much. They were ttting it up there, and they ttted it waaaay too hard, and the direct and utterly predictable result was one last, very, very long "ohst" moment.
Agreed, probably is correct but its the tone of some on here that blows; everyone with the smallest drop of petrol in their veins has driven like an utter tool on the road at one time or another but most people get away with it; these poor feckers didn't and paid the ultimate price. That makes me sad so I must be soft smile
Or, just perhaps, we recognise that if we fk up somewhere like that, and suffer the same fate, then it would be our own bloody stupid fault, too?

So maybe step out of the powerfully built PH Director persona and have a little empathy for two poor kids and their families.
Sorry. Pass me the book of condolence...

and where are the rules that say you can't have empathy for somebody when they make a mistake?

if you don't understand that then there is no point trying to explain.

I'm out.

The most positive result of this incident would be if it reminded us all that driving beyond your limits has consequences. These guys look like our usual car enthusiasts, enthusiasts who put the thrill of driving fast above the boring reality that errors have consequences.

They got it wrong, very wrong. Everything that was known came out in the inquest so instead of speculating or sniping on the forums learn from it and make sure you're not as stupid in the future.

Have you got a link to the transcript of the verdict?

I'm not suggesting anything; merely pointing out that neither of us know what really happened. So maybe step out of the powerfully built PH Director persona and have a little empathy for two poor kids and their families.
Whatever mate. They drive like dicks and dids end of. No one else was involved.

Evidence suggests a fair bit of what happened and the inquest concluded analysing the evidence that was available they caused their own deaths. We don't need know any more than that.

As I said earlier my sympathy lies with those they left behind.

There are far more concerning issues across the world than this.

Whilst I agree with your sentiment, the middle ground is that we're all still here because we drive enthusiastically where a mistake has a much greater chance of not be fatal. These guys did not and paid the ultimate price, it was their choice though. RIP.
Yes. Luck.
No, judgement. If you go acting like a tool on a country road, you may end up in a ditch or hitting a tree, if you go acting like a tool on a mountain pass, you may end up hitting a cliff face or off down the side of a mountain.

This probably won't go down very well, but a good friend of mine was in the same group as these lads and said they were driving like cocks most of the time.

I've had a few close calls myself rallying in the mountains.
Are you talking about actual competitive special stages on closed roads?
Events like the Portugal Historic and the Costa Brava, which although strictly speaking are "regularity" rallies, the high average speeds required and the impossibly tight times set for the liasons between stages, basically require you to drive as fast as you can. The roads are not officially completely closed, but there are police at each end of a stage to wave you through and to encourage Joe public that an alternative route might be a good idea. Unlike the UK, where the route of certain rallies seems to be populated by the proffesionally indignant, the Euro events are normally lined with cheering locals encouraging you on your way, possibly a contributing factor in this tragic case.

Of self-inflicted stupidity. Fortunately, they didn't take anybody else with them.
I imagine you don't do well with sensitivity? Possibly accurate, nevertheless, very distasteful comments.

Maybe but I doubt any of us have driving like miss Daisy in our youth.

Difference is it didn't bite us terminally.
