Pistonheaders please can you help.

I have a choice to make.
I need a car to do minimal mileage in but I need to use it all year and already have a garage queen ( 993 Turbo ) and the family wagon. Something that's not going to loose too much money or cost too much. I have tried and failed to find a low mileage CSL that hasn't been messed with.

Must be fun.

So on less than 5000 miles a year I have short listed

2008 V8 R8 with around 16000 miles on it.
And a 2011 1M 19000 miles on it.

Can any of you tell me what to budget to run the R8
And have any of you driven both?
And given a 10k price difference what would you buy.

It's one of these two. I'm done looking.

Thanks

Pigster.

+1.

Whats the point of buying a car to not use?

Oh it gets used. But not for going to tescos and not on salted roads.

I don't get it if I'm honest.

A sports car vs. a small coupe with a boot and seats but just to use in the winter and for pootling to Tesco's and back?

Apples vs. Pineapples surely?

So use the family wagon. Why would you buy an R8 or a 1M to get salty in winter or do a tesco run?

Especially if you say you don't want it to lose too much money, getting it covered in road salt and grime isn't going to help its value.

not an obvious pairing I know.
That's why I'm asking for objective ownership and driving experience.

Not really looking to justify the shortlist. Just looking to enjoy different cars.

I suspect the 1M will hold its value better under daily use.

Get yourself an Impreza wagon and be done with it.

Showing off post? Look at me I can buy an R8 just to do the weekly shop in?

Not really what I meant. I used to have a Porsche Boxster and now I drive a Golf.

I wouldn't post "Golf vs. Boxster" because respectfully, it's pretty obvious what the differences would be hence confused

I'd have the 1m also, I can see it being more fun it's more compact and will be easier to park etc,
The only negative is its a rare car in its own right and I wouldn't want to leave it lying around for long as the
Laptop thiefs will be on its case once they find it , but so would the r8 I guess, though not really as rare,

1M.

An R8 is very "try hard" especially if your looking for something that is going to be used most of the time. 1M will hold value better, look the part, fast, and very rare. There's just something about a 1M to me that makes it a bit special when an R8, although brilliant, leaves me a bit cold.

A nice decision to have to make, ignore the jealous bds above.

1M will hold its value better, and is more special and rare than an R8.

Think OP was looking for practical advice on residuals rather than opinions on image or how much he should use his other cars!

So, I concur with the other relevant replies - 1M a safer place to put the cash.
