Comparing new with used is never a fair point. Its totally different. Like comparing a nice brand new apple with an old rotten one.

But many buyers do that. That includes many people who don't read this site. That is what that poster is saying.

Being a fair point or not is entirely irrelevant to his point.

^^He may be saying just that, but my interpretation is different. wink

If Toyota had sold a base spec model at £20,000 in 2012 they may've sold more (and maybe fewer 'premium' spec which is all that was available).

The 'premium' spec I and others paid £27,000+ for are now available, used, at c. £15-20,000.

Today's buyer can choose between buying a loaded 2012/13 model with leather, heated seats, NAV, alloys, etc to modify, or a base spec for pretty much the same price.

These are viable alternatives for anyone seeking to modify - which I'll concede is a limited market in the UK - and won't apply to the majority who just want to buy a 'new' car (like me).

Quite a bold statement. hehe

Mine's almost three years old and while it's got a few stone chips on the front, no rust at all. It's been pretty close to perfect - the only issue was a broken coil pack replaced FOC under warranty.
I suspect it was down to over-revving as I have flat-shift and had the rev-limit raised. smile
The chips were on the edges of the doors and under the boot lid (not usual stone chip places) but they started rusting ridiculously quick. Even after they 'repaired' it, the rust started coming back through the paint after a few months.
Such a shame as I absolutely loved the car. Now got a Golf GTI in a SOLID colour smile

There's a 12 year anti corosion guarantee on the bodywork..doesn't sound right if rust is coming through at 18 months. Did you buy new??
Yeah, Toyota said it wouldn't be covered under warranty. I even had a case open with Motor Codes and an independent assessor out to look at my car. Even he couldn't believe what was happening on a car of that age. Just glad I got rid of it before I lost even more money. I bought second hand (was less than a year when I bought it).

Interesting. In Australia we have a base model 86, its called GT. Up-spec is called GTS. I purchased a GT in red, no options recently, and after all the taxes and fees it was GBP15,628. Pretty damn good value for money i'd say. The only difference between Primo and our GT is you get alloy pedals (ours are plain rubber) while we get the white tacho with LCD speed display.
