Money no option and practicality of no consideration, who would take a sports saloon over a 2 seat sports car? (1 car garage!)

I’ve owned both and admire them almost equally as much, but I can’t help but learn more towards the 4 door saloon even though I don’t need more than 2 seats.

I can’t put my finger on it really, I mean I’ll stick with the 2 seat sports car for the time being because it seems like the sensible choice but I do envy super saloons when they roll up next to me at the lights.

Almost all sports saloons depreciate with the same enthusiasm as their lesser-engine siblings. Most decent sportscars depreciate a lot more slowly. Which IMO tells us something about their relative desirability among car enthusiasts.

What you really want is a SUV with a Sport badge.

I'd have an M5 over a V8 Vantage. They're just my type of car.

Saloon cars scream "driving gloves" and the type of melter who spends all sunday afternoon "detailing" his car. Very Alan Partridge TBH.

Sports saloons/super saloons for me. I don't quite know why, but probably something to do with the breadth of abilities a good one has.

It's going to depend largely on each individual's mileage and routine - for me personally a super saloon works better for high mileage, fast cruising and lots of motorways and A roads. If I had neither I think I would spend far more miles wishing I had a super saloon than a sports car.

Of course there would be plenty of moments when I'd far rather have the latter but not enough to want one permanently instead of the other.

I also assume we are talking a 2 seater of broadly equivalent power to weight ratio to the super saloon!

I like both.

A good sports car (by my personal definition) should be a bit too involving and demanding to use all the time.

If I only had space for one car I'd move house.

If by some contrived reasoning I could definately only have one car I'd have the saloon.

In practise I have both and see minimal crossover in what I get from them.

I'd generally pick the saloon over the coupe but depends on what the car choices are ie: M3 over M4

sports / super saloon for me. I just feel that in (most) cases the saloon looks more classy, plus its a better all rounder with regards to practicality.

The only case I cant make my mind up on is the previous gen C63 - Ive promised myself to replace my mk5 R32 with one next summer.. I just cant decide wether I like the coupe or saloon more because I love them both.

Coupe's are nice..but they still have to be proper 4 seaters for me.

just 2 seats are selfish :P

Sports 2 seaters seem cramped to me. Whereas a sporty saloon can be filled with large amounts of junk for trips abroad, to the tip, to the outlaws for Christmas, and Ikea for making your house look like everyone else's.

But having said that, a Fiat X/19, with only enough room for a blonde and a toothbrush, was my fave car for nearly three years. I was not as grumpy and fat, then, of course.

If only one car garage (and I echo whats been said about moving house so have more than a 1 car garage), then it would be a sport saloon over a 2 seater sports car.
Had both and while the 2 seater's are not an issue for me 95% of the time its the 5% of the time that annoys, ie the need to take 3 people in the car, the need to take that extra bit of wood or extra large parcel home that would normally just put on the back seats etc.
2 seater's in my eye are a good excuse to buy a large 4x4 for winter and dirty jobs use !

Sports car for me too.
Although there WILL be the day you have to pick something up at Ikea or are out with 3 mates.

But I don't like sports saloons. But I do like sports estates!!
So i have great sympathies for both sports cars and sports estates!! Sports saloons, less so...

I always thought a sports saloon was a compromise where as the 2 seater sports car is allowed to be a sports car and not worry about being practical in anyway.

I would.

But then, I started out driving in the era when the only available sports cars were MGB's, TR6's & 7's, Spitfires and other crap like that laugh so I've just never really related to or desired a 2 seat sports type car (some very expensive 50's/60's vintage exotica excepted) and so sports saloons similar to the character of the homolgation specials of 'my era' will always be my preference.

Saloon.

Unless you're in your twenties.

I always cringe/chuckle when I see bald/overweight bloke in a "sports" car (usually wearing dodgy shades).

I'm sure they're devastated some other middle aged bloke in a 15 year old BMW thinks they look bad laugh

Not sure why anyone would care what other people are driving! Perhaps he always wanted a sports car and couldn't actually afford one till he was "too old" ?
