Never really got Sports cars when I was younger. Too impractical and compromised.
Now I'm at an age that starts with a 5 I don't think I would have anything else if I was limited to a single car.
If we go anywhere its always in the two seater, even if its two weeks in France. I'm seriously considering selling our SUV and saloon to get a bigger 'sports' car (R129 SL500 is the current thinking) just to get more wine in the boot when we travel.....

What do you require from your 'sports car' sir? - Well it needs to be capable of stuffing as much cheap wine inside as possible..... Do people really love booze so much now that they would change their cars just to cram a little bit more inside of them?

On with the threads topic, it depends on what you define as a 'sports car' - some sports cars are not very sporty at all and a sports saloon would run rings around them in every sense.

Money no option and practicality of no consideration, who would take a sports saloon over a 2 seat sports car? (1 car garage!).
Pre children I think i would cope with something like a Murcielago or similar as my only car. I would not give any car with four doors a second glance....

There is nothing better to outpace a shiny bonnet knobhead in.
This, Some are fast enough to give proper supercars a run for the money, yet be more comfortable to go further then 10 miles in

If, as specified in the OP, practicality is not an issue, sports car. Why would you want to drive round in a car compromised for practicality that you don't need? That would be like someone with no kids having a 7 seat MPV instead of a saloon.

I’ve owned both and admire them almost equally as much, but I can’t help but learn more towards the 4 door saloon even though I don’t need more than 2 seats.

I can’t put my finger on it really, I mean I’ll stick with the 2 seat sports car for the time being because it seems like the sensible choice but I do envy super saloons when they roll up next to me at the lights.
How about split the difference and go for a modern Pony car.

Generally a sports car, which in most cases means more special feel and better looks.
(strangely i'm currently enjoying my 330i saloon more than the boxster s i sold)

I'd generally pick the saloon over the coupe but depends on what the car choices are ie: M3 over M4
That's hardly a choice though, 4 seat saloon over 4 seat 2 door saloon shape of the same car. What about M3 against F type coupe or other proper 2 seat sports car as in the OP?

For me, practicality not an issue, it would have to be the 2 seater. Otherwise with my life it would have to be fast estate for a 1 car garage and then 2 seater when I'd built a 2nd garage!

2 seater, you can always hire a van or a bigger car for a day or a weekend if you need the extra space.

  • Sportscars? Yes

I like a four seat coupe myself. They have the correct number of doors, usually look better than a saloon but can still fit people and things inside them (even though rear seat passengers might complain).

That said I currently own a V8 saloon and a 7-seat 4x4 which is currently converted into a two seater for a holiday so I can camp in the back smile.

Sports saloon if you have a family. Can switch from comfortable cruiser for 4 adults to a tarmac ripping monster at the push of a button.

Money no option, no family ties to get in the way, it would have to be some kind of 2 seater for me.

As much as I would love a pre facelift e63 Merc ot would be hard to ignore the f type, both sound great and go like the clappers and the merc looks good but the f type is a beautiful car. Would be a hard choice but a ftype would win

I like sports saloons because they can be sensational to drive yet no-one looks your way twice - a joy. I also have a sports car that pushes the 'minimal*involvement' dot product well off the average graph. I run both on a budget that might buy something as tedious as a new Golf R. Win-win!

(Alpina B10 3.3, manual, and a Fisher Fury R1. Or 'silver barge and a kit-car' to the unwashed.)

I love sports saloons/estates.

Just like the idea of a fairly unassuming car having a big engine. Much like mine.

^^^ Succinctly put! smile

I think that's the essence of a sportscar. It doesn't have to be "fast" - simply "quick enough" and "enjoyable".
