You'll either have to go slightly older than intended, or a bit over budget, but how about a Maserati Granturismo?
I don't know or care about running costs etc, JUST LOOK AT IT!
And it sounds even better than it looks.

I'm 55 in February , I've been spending every waking hour trying to work out if I can afford one , cheapest I found was around 30k , by selling my 2 cars and putting some to it I could raise the 30k but the running costs are astronomical

£3600 for a big service isn't uncommon which would be out of the question, whatever I bought the main dealer history would be out of the window.

Plus it doesn't help that there's no negotiation on the price

They start it up

will you take £3000 less

no

OK I'll take it

Theyve been stuck at 30k for last two years, regardless of mileage, plenty of indies about to do work for less than 1/2 the MDS, plus theyve been pretty reliable........ask a few Qs on here

Falls down on the age but what about an Aero 8.

Special and probably less likely to bleed money than the Jag and the Merc in depreciation but may well sting you with some mighty bills if it all goes pear shaped. Fantastic looking things in my eyes although not quite as pretty as the Maserati GT

For me it would be the SL then the Jag but both are good GT Cars.

If it is to be an SL then you'll want a V8 under the bonnet, either the 4.7 twin turbo version these are hard to find but are worth the extra.

I rented one of these when in Toronto last month. It's typically American and modestly amusing on straight lines but by heck is it a lumbering wallowing beast in anything resembling a corner. I know its the stereotype, but its true. For European roads with bends the only offering from the other side of the pond that I would consider would be a modern Vette.

I'd stick a few more grand in the budget and get an Aston. Parkway has a lovely looking DB9 Volante in dark blue.

ETA Apologies, it's actually Onyx Black Metallic with cream truffle leather. Gorgeous.

thanks, but I will not be looking at any supped at BMW, Audi, Mercedes normal car. I am looking for something that when people look at me they say "he's finished working"
That seems to be a strange way to go about choosing a car laugh

Can you give us an example or two of vehicles that portray the image you've stopped working? Apart from Motability Ford Focuses and wheelchairs
laugh

Indeed. That has to be the most bizarre criteria for choosing a car I've ever heard.

However, I'm happy to help and on the basis of this new factor in your decision making process OP, may I suggest one of the following...

With either of these, you'll be certain that Mr RS5 realises you've stopped working. You could actually afford both (and maybe even a third!?) to keep the mileage down on them.

I turned 65 last November and bought myself an Audi A8, an older one admittedly but it was a car I'd always wanted and reaching retirement age seemed like a good time.

I agree they are not a bomb proof purchase', I managed to get mine for £37K so plan to keep it a few years.
Three or four years ago a decent SL 55 was about £30K plus and decent spec 55's are still around £25K that is if you don't want one with starship mileage.
To explain my reasoning behind not deprecating much new the car I bought was in excess of £120K seven years down the line and only 27K on the clock I bought it for £37K so the bulk of depreciation has taken place OK it will loose a bit over the next few years but not a great deal in relative terms .

Indeed it is, but I felt I should put some explanation to my logic as the replies straight after my post put me in mind of a likely script for Dumb and Dumber the first reply i did not agree with and the second reply after that was completely dim-witted.

Jaguar XKR convertible. No contest. Goes like stink when you want to. Cruises magnificently when you are not in a hurry. Whilst the boot is not great you have the benefit of the rear seats for additional luggage. Really comfortable when you not pressing on. Hood is very well insulated. Also not incredibly common so a wee bit special. In my opinion a highly under-rated car. Well within your price range
This, this, this.
Been all over Europe in mine, always get loads of smiles, is super comfy, and goes like a stabbed rat when you apply the load pedel. Also just has a classy air about it, not perceived as a hooligan, even though it can be.
SLK ticks all those boxes and then some (biased alert)
