Great to read all your comments guys! I really am torn between moving on or keeping the Integrale.
Part of me wants to experience as many different cars as possible whilst the other thinks about the regret I may feel seeing this one go!
Dry storage is very much a consideration.
Having been keeping an eye on the M3's, I've noticed the CS's starting to creep up in price so would be great to have another investment and a car I've long wanted as well.
Renaultgeek - It's a tempting offer, but I prefer Salt and Vinegar

I thought I wanted an E46 M3 right up until I drove it. Was hugely disappointed, to be honest. Part of me wants to experience as many different cars as possible whilst the other thinks about the regret I may feel seeing this one go!

In that market, it might be a cliche, but try a truly stupidly powerful Evo as well.
So we're all car nuts here. Trying out/owning as many different types as possible is perfectly logical.
This isn't just another car though.
It was iconic and rare the moment it was conceived.
Age has only made it more and more special, which is quite something considering the design tool of choice was a ruler.

It's an EPIC car. Look at it...purposeful, perfect from any angle, incredible to drive, scaring contemporary Porsches, a winner.
Question: How long did it take for manufacturers to make a hatch that could carry five people, with a decent boot, permanent four wheel drive, 2 litre, capable, in standard form (215 BHP), to accelerate from 0-60 in 5.7 seconds?
Don't ever sell it.

I wouldn't sell. Lots of people will cite it as the one car they wish they had kept and not just for financial reasons. I have had mine 8 years now and I get more and more enjoyment from it as time passes. It's part of our family albeit my wife's not too keen either but slowly warming to it! Use it and enjoy it. They are very, very special.
I know everyone's financial situation is different but surely having won it in a competition you can just keep it as a second car and buy something more usable as your daily?
Given the way classic prices are going at the moment you would just be selling a potentially very lucrative investment, and one which you have the added benefit of being able to enjoy from time to time whilst you watch it appreciate.
That said I know maintenance on old Italian cars can be expensive, but even so I would have thought it would be appreciating over and above the costs of maintenance?
Whatever you decide to do I wish you all the best anyway. Its great to hear about someone enjoying owning one of their heroes.

I agree with all posters - the Integrale is a keeper. Having said that I sold mine about 5 years ago. It seemed the right decision at the time as I wasn't really using it! It was only doing about 750kms a year! It didn't feel right and I thought someone else should be enjoying it whose will actually use it!
In the end I place an ad on PH and within hours it had sold - to a car collector in Germany! I have enjoyed some great cars since then including a 6.2 litre V8 VXR8 - an awesome car. But nothing surpasses the Integrale - the driving experience, the knowledge you own an absolute classic and the joy when passers by almost wet their pants at its sight!! They have their faults and need constant cosseting, but as you say, when you have one that is sorted they aren't that bad to maintain. You just need to alllow c.£1,500 pa.
Think long and hard before you make a decision you may live to regret.

Many years ago I was given some advice by a wise man. Unless it's really necessary don't sell it. You will miss it once it has gone. You will want another which will undoubtedly cost you more than the one you have sold. When you have found another, you won't know it like the last one and you will worry about impending work. Lastly however good it might be, it will never be the same as the last and you will always compare them.
As a result, I have had the car for nearly seventeen years and now it's finally going back up in value I can keep telling myself that it's an investment as well as something that I enjoy.. The only thing left is to convince SWMBO and sell one of the children to pay for some maintenance and improvements.
