Cars you regret NOT buying
Discussion
I try not to think about this too much - an Aston db5 in silver for less than £4000.It was back in about 1983/4 and the car was sat in a used car traders in Port Talbot for ages.I had a look at it was solid and usable although very far from perfect. I just didn't have the funds however I tried to work it out.Would have been a good buy though!
A 2001 Maserati 3200. I was about 25 at the time and I wanted a V8, I had an eclectic shortlist of V8 conveyances, but I was too pusillanimous to opt for the more exotic nature of the 3200 and chose instead to procure a 2003 Audi S4. It was the sensible choice at the time, as I was new to powerful cars and the 3200 had a bit of a reputation. However under scrutiny of hindsight, the fact I bought the boring (relatively) Audi, instead of acquiring that trident badged beauty with it's stunning appearance and intoxicating soundtrack still bothers me to this day. Even though she would have had her fair share of extra pitfalls and costs.
1984 Porsche 911 Carrera in mint condition with relatively low miles. I had a deal worked out for like $15000 US 4 years ago. I had no idea prices on these would rise as much as they did in the past 4 years. I stupidly bought a low mileage 2002 Porsche Boxster S instead that lost 15% of its value in the couple years I owned it.
I very nearly px'd my e30 M3 against a lhd 964 RS (in ruby red) plus some cash. In the end I decided that the cash, which was about £5k I seem to remember, was half of my house deposit so I went with the house instead. I could have had a 95% mortgage but thought it better to put the money in bricks and mortar rather than a pink Porsche.
I remember thinking at the time that M3 prices wouldn't get much higher....

About 6 years ago, on one of the Nissan Z forums, someone offered a stripped out 240Z project car to anyone who could come and trailer it away.
The chassis had been inspected, repaired and treated. The dashboard was still in place but the seats and carpets had been removed, they were in good condition and also part of the deal. There was no engine, gear box, etc.
I had nowhere to put it, would have loved to have put it back together and transplanted a fun engine into it, maybe an RB25 or VQ35.
I think about that post pretty much every time I see a 240Z.

4 years ago I agreed a great deal on my ideal 355, black on black (nero) manual targa, 99 R plate for 35k. Turned it down as my TVR felt more alive but that 355 is now worth almost double. This was the car on the day I agreed the deal (changed my mind the day after)
8 or 9 years ago I had the opportunity to buy a Ferrari Dino for a similar price ?

About 3 years ago I could of brought a ferrari 308GTB it was running but had front accident damage, but came with all the parts needed to repair it for £8000 I didnt buy it stupidly, but more recently in fact just this year I did purchase a 1990 964 C2 cabriolet running but needed work for £3700
5 years ago was offered a 12k miles, facelift red NSX for £36k. Recently saw one with higher miles advertised at over £100k and they regularly come up at higher miles for 60-70. bks.

Might even be the same car. Obscene though I think. When interests rates recover and investors have other options, these bubbles are going to pop.
