I had a chance to buy an M-Tune R34 GT-R at a very low price not knowing these were so rare, so I bought an M3 instead.

Got offerered a tidy rust free mot'd and taxed bmw 635csi in 2000 or 2001 for £800, this was when people were going nuts over petrol prices and you had to pay hundreds to scrap mot failures, i was afraid of mpg and borkage so i bought a 1.6 cavalier instead.

Princess Diana's Ford Escort Ghia - the car she drove when she came engaged and had enormous press coverage.

Aged 10 my dad took me to classic car auction pre view at blackbushe and I could see it was a car to buy, it was reserved at £1500 and sold for around that figure, this was the early 1990s.

The car was worth that even it was just a normal escort, apparently worth / sold for two million pounds and now in a now a museum piece.
Seriously???
There may be an owner who claims it's worth £2 million or is asking £2 million for it, but it's not worth that and they will never get it. Even the late princess of the people can't stretch the value up to that.

Back in 2004 I could have bought a seemingly nice e30 M3 for £8k. I bought an e36 328i Sport instead because I was worried about the M3 costing me too much money. The e36 cost an absolute fortune in just about every year while depreciating massively. Doh
