Maybe the motorist could have gone closer to the parked cars ? It doesn't look like has left a massive gap to his right.

If you add 1.5 m door space 1.5 m passing space plus the width of the rider it will work out wider than a car.

There is room to pass and it's all about a bit of give and take. The cyclist could have made more space but it would not be good enough for his YT channel.
Now you're just contradicting yourself.
Either there is room to avoid the doors and for the car to pass safely or there isn't.

You said another poster said there was room.
I pointed out he suggested the car should have been further from the cyclist.
You then claim that you think he is wrong, despite his local knowledge, despite YOU pointing out he supported your argument - which he doesn't.

You say "there's room" but require the cyclist to put himself in danger of a dooring.
IMNVHO that means there ISN'T ROOM.

If it had been me on that road I would given more space for the motorist I could hear coming from behind. Is that wrong ?
It's contrary to rule 67 of the highway code.
Contrary to "Cyclecraft" the recognised bible for safe cycling.
Contrary to common sense.
Contrary to the training I have had for riding safely in London.
Contrary to TFL recommendations for cycling safely.

...otherwise spot on.

Yes there is room, just not as much room as the HC may say is needed. It's a case of using common sense and getting on with life.

Are you the Peugeot driver in the video that face planted? If not, why do you think yonex is referring to you?

I'm sure he was referring to the driver in the video. This thread has entered into the realm of boring, you have the usual cyclists are never wrong defenders of the faith; Heebeegeebee, swerni etc. who want to argue over how many angels can dance on the head of a pin. On the other hand a fair number of cyclists posting who can see how passive aggressive the muppet with the go pro is, and that is about as good an outcome as can be hoped for.

He/she was referring to me and my 1.5m distances. Which in the real world we nearly all know don't always exist.

Edit: I could be wrong though, he may not be following the thread today. Happy to admit I am wrong if I am.

Watched the video, saw a cyclist and driver get into it over not much. This particular cyclist is a bit daft for picking a fight he can't deal with, tbh I was playing Benny Hill music in my head whilst watching it. I love it how brave the cyclist is after the event, personally, I'd be pretty embarrassed.

Two utter bottom feeders.

Whoa! You've put me in the wrong tribe.

There are three tribes in these threads imo. There's the good/reasonable drivers, few in number and who are mostly baffled at how so much fuss and so many threads can be generated over cyclists. I'm in this tribe.

Then there's the tribe of numpty drivers, who are massively challenged by anything and everything, be that weather, cyclists, hgvs or whatever. These are the ones who like the massive numpty in the film, struggle to overtake safely and bleat on about cyclists and insurance and helmets and the rest of the nonsense.

I think teasing these numptys is a perfectly legitimate sport and is to be encouraged.

Then there's the cyclists, who I don't really give a kipper about though I do think they're a bit hard done by at times, and as a (imo) reasonable driver I do deplore the driving standards out there and how drivers can get away scot free almost when they kill and maim any vulnerable road user.

Generally speaking my comments are aimed at the stness of drivers, because these who are the ones who kill and maim. Even in this case, I really don't give a hoot about the tit-with-no-life who makes these films, but I do quite strongly feel that the thug should not be allowed to drive.

Mind you, though I say I don't care about the tit's films - he's struck gold with this one he really has, 40-carat comedy gold. This film is pure class and has really given me a good laugh.

I disagree, I think it is cruel.

I don't get this at all, what driving crimes has he committed?

Back in the day would you have visited Bedlam to laugh at the insane?

Yes.

I regularly do this.

You don't?! You don't look over your right shoulder every time you pull away from the side of the road?

The sort of roof on my little car makes visibility pretty crap, so you have to be extra vigilant unless you want to lose something in the blind spot, then hit it, but you really shouldn't be so shocked at the idea of people looking over their shoulder when they're in their car.
Do you have trouble reading or comprehending information? Turning your head around and looking over your shoulder are different things.

From the above "Note that it may be advisable to cycle in the door zone for short periods of time to let impatient motorists past."

Considering there was only one car behind this guy and the fact he would have heard him approaching which would make him an impatient motorist, Why not take this advice.

As far as door space goes it would appear to be 0.5 m that is recommended, I am happy to be corrected if this is wrong. I took the 1.5 m measurement from a you tube comment laugh

Sorry but trying to avoid a dooring doesn't make you a "self-centred tt".
Reading back on the thread someone local has said you can fit two cars down that road. Why can't you fit a cyclist and a car down that road ?
Irrespective of how much total width there is available, how does cycling to avoid a dooring make you a self centred tt?
When you ride around filming in the hope you will get a reaction rather than getting on with a trouble free life. That's what I call self centred.

If you want to defend this guy go for it, enjoy your cycling days, I hope they bring pleasure to you like they do this guy.
I have never defended the cyclist for chasing after the motorist, only for his right to avoid a dooring. At the point the motorist decided not to give much room, the cyclist was travelling in a straight line, at a constant speed, giving himself enough space to avoid a dooring.

So you still haven't answered the question - how does cycling to avoid a dooring make you a self centred tt?

Err.. yes? Why would you not?

Same with cyclists in traffic who are riding on the left, position your car to the right so they can get past easily. It's just common courtesy.

Exactly - I always do this.

I also position myself to the left when there's a cyclist on the opposite side of the road, to give cars on the opposite side of the road (and therefore the cyclist) more room for the overtake.

It's wrong.
Even a smallish car will have about a 1m wide door.
This shows two doors taking up AT LEAST 1,750mm.

The actual width of the two doors is clearly more than 1,750mm from the following picture:

Also how does hearing a car "make him an impatient motorist"?
