Yes yes, it's another "what car" thread! Although I must say I always enjoy reading other people's.

Right, I'm after a fun 4 seater that's great to drive and pretty quick. I don't want anything too old or with loads of miles on it. I also don't like large cars, I would actually prefer a two seater, but I need to be able to fit a child seat in the back. Also I don't want to run two cars.

I guess the most important question is budget, up to 15k

Love to hear your thoughts.

A Maserati 4200 fits the bill. No ifs or buts!

You'd get a decent 996 within budget.

The Masser is a nice looking car, buts it's older than I'm after, also most of them seem to be Autos which is a no for me

Certainly go and drive a 130. Will easily take two kids and kit and is hugely rewarding to drive, being RWD and a straight six.

I would actually go so far as to say that as engines are getting smaller and smaller and all having FI fitted or are all fwd or AWD then in later years many will look back and view the 130i as the last of the line and the pinnacle of a hot hatch era.

Really rather brilliant car. I don't like BMW but after trying one by accident I had to buy one for generic road duties. No other car in its class drives anything like it or has such a great engine.

Does it need to be smaller than the E92 in your username Dan? Or is that your dream car?

Yes I've currently got a E92 330d mapped to 305bhp and some daft torque figure. It's a great motorway car, but my commute is now much shorter and all b roads.

I've heard some good things about the 130i, I have owned a Z4 3.0 so I understand where your coming from.

Great cars, but I'm looking for something a little bit smaller and lighter. Might have to test one anyway though

Great sounding engine, but my old mk5 GTI felt lighter on its feet.

What constitutes too old? 6/7 years?

Seems like you're, into hot hatches, RX8, a 1-series or a GT86 if you need to fit a kid in a seat in the back

Just something that's a lot of fun to punt down a b road. I like the GT86,I just wish it was a bit quicker! I'm after a car that's newer than my 2007 BMW.

Definitely try a megane.

Scirocco R is also just in sight at that price. I suspect mk6 R would be aswell. Also the option of going completely small hatch with a new fiesta St not far off the money.

I agree about the 130i being a high point for BMW but can't agree about its hot hatch credentials. If you define a hot hatch, RWD and a relatively large 6 cylinder engine don't exactly figure. As good as it is I don't ever think of it as a hot hatch.

M135is are high teens still. They were on my shopping list, but I've heard too many people on here say that they aren't very exciting.
