We live next door to a lovely lady now on her mid seventies but you'd never know. Husband sadly gone into a home with dementia do she does rely on our help a bit.

She has a 57 plate Megane auto and it has become very troublesome. I have nicely suggested she swaps it but is reluctant to do so. She piled £1000 in for a gearbox and £400 for the MOT last year.

During the past month she has had the AA out 3 times. Firstly one of the rear windows failed to go up after some switch fiddling by her grand daughter. As it was Saturday and looking like rain I gaffer red taped up the 3 inch gap but she decided to call the boys in yellow. The guy really worked hard for an hour to try to get it to work and finally resorted to removing the door panel and hand cranking it. So they turn out not for a breakdown more as a nice thing to help.

Second time last week she sits in the back of the car shuts the door and of course the electric child locks are on so she decides to clamber into the front to get out. Why o why didn't she just press the switch on the drivers door? So she calls the yellow boys out again. They nicely tell her it's 'user error' so not a breakdown again.

Yesterday she asked if I heard her car alarm in the night. Yes..... But didn't know whose as it had stopped before I stumbled to the window. It's been going off at all sorts of times for months. Anyway in the afternoon the yellow van appears again. Nothing found and yet another non breakdown attended. Another trip to the dealer suggested.

I suppose in one way I'm impressed but the AA's diligence but surprised they keep putting out for non breakdowns.

IIRC the AA offer a sort of car warranty service which they contribute towards repairs etc. she might have this?

One of the guys told me about a 50 mile trip to a guy who was too dim witted to describe the warning light on his dash; long way to go to top up screen wash smile

Maybe this lady is sharper than you think and tells them the car is borked only for the patrol to be told it's OK but could you help a little old lady out and fix this because my pension doesn't stretch far these days...

Had I guy from work call the AA out for what he described as clutch failure in his car, guy turns up and removes a can of de-icer stuck under the pedal.

To be fair to her, she did get the stupid 'leave in reverse' system on her old Saab quite well hehe

I've called them out when I could not get a pug 407 estate to lock.

Turns out that it won't lock when the rear glass is open, and it's really easy to catch the button on the keys without knowing it.

To be fair they did have a cheat sheet to go through on the phone before sending out a patrol, and this then got added to it.....
