I once thought the same as he OP, but then I thought about it some more and wised up.

Can you imagine how such a costly, impractical and unstaifactory bks of a suituation would arise in the courts if people were punished in connecton with accidents for anything more than they might be already?

How effective are those speed awareness courses that drivers convicted of speeding attend? Would similar courses for careless driving work? Are they already a thing?
As a veteran of two driver awareness courses I'd argue that they're better than points and probably the same amount of deterent as your first 3 points.

Day out though, and a free lunch.

Just to throw into the mix.

When I was 19 I got done for speeding. The officer said to me I had to be prosecuted as it would teach me a lesson and I could have caused an accident. Speeding kills etc etc you naughty boy. Have a shafting from your insurers etc.

Friend of mine lost control on the local dual carraigeway due to lack of talent, somersaulted a traffic island and crashed into the crash barrier. Attending officer decided not to prosecute as he didnt feel it neccesary.

Queue many weeks of me being ribbed in the pub that he'd actually crashed and got away with it and I got fined for not crashing.

Same friend got away with tinted front windows on his Civic Type R a few weeks later. Jammy sod lol
