I see the OP has an E90 BMW, as do I.

I regularly get 61, 61.25 litres in the tank when I fill it.

Also, when the range on the computer drops to "------" you still have at least another 25 miles, if you drive like a saint.

On a similar note, I hired a Transit van once, and coming off a motorway slip road the range dropped to zero, and about 300 yards later the Van stuttered, that was a close call.
I experienced similar in a Transit! Left Chepstow showing 40 miles, it read ---- just as I was about to leave the link road at Cardiff, I got around the roundabout and stopped in sight of the Tesco garage!

You can see the garage in the top of the pic, the van stopped where the two white vans are in the bottom of the picture! I had to walk across to the garage, buy a fuel can, chuck some diesel in it, so I could drive the van round to fill it up properly!

hehe

VAG cars have some sort of buffer which can be activated during fueling up which adds 5-7 litres of additional capacity.
how does that work?

1.8 mk1 mx5 supposed to be a 48 litre tank despite my attempts to run as low as possible was a game on one of the mx5 forums where you can get the gauage the furthest down from the empty mark I still can only get 45 litres in it and that is up to the neck too. The can be with the guage aboue a quarter after the empty line.
The common saying is with mx5 on the empty mark you got about 8-10 litres still left that certainly is true.

I've managed to squeeze 99 litres in the Touareg which is supposed to have a 90 litre tank.
Most Touaregs have 100 litre fuel tanks

I'm pretty sure you failed gcse exams on reading otherwise you would have found an answer in the same thread you've responded to (i.e. this thread).

Correct. Certainly the previous model. A full tank of super unleaded is not cheap!
