Who in the hell would spec carbon fibre wheel arch liners? £2,300 is obviously irrelevant to buyers of this but what's the point?
It's so you can see the exposed carbon fibre when the doors are open.

Ahh ok. Makes a bit more sense with those doors. Can't say I would be bothered though.

The parking sensors are £2730. Is that the sensors or a camera as well? It seems a lot for about £50 of electronics if just the sensors, wiring and a 30p beeper.

Or are they using some left over gold from the F1 engine bay?
Are they the same ones that are options on the 540/570 - front and rear cameras with track lap recording?

That might be it, not so bad in that case. I'm still waiting for when the 540/570 reviews pop up, as you must be too, even more eagerly.
I most certainly am. I've seen it written somewhere on PH that dealer and press cars are in production and have been for a few weeks - if so then we must be getting close to review time.

Never going to happen according to McLaren
Though I suspect a "version" with a completely unrelated name may appear

Damn, missed a trick there!

I was far too busy gawping at the car if I'm honest smile

I realise this is more comparable with a speciale, but if you are comparing it with the 488, its worth noting the 488 is 80k cheaper..so is the Huracan

Surely the 650 is the car to compare with the 488?

Agree and despite the 488 being the latest and greatest Ferrari the 650S more than holds its own against it still and will be best part of £30k cheaper. 650s spider is the one to have though, with none of that awful scuttle shake you get in the Ferrari's without the carbon tub.
McLaren spiders are just so solid in comparison I would never now buy a non carbon tubbed open top vehicle

Great review Dan, trials of the job and all that. Mr Exceed - have you heard back from Woking yet? One up for the 501st 675LT. As for product obsolescence surely it makes sense to make one fewer than you can sell? I am quite sure almost every GT3 or GT4 had a customer before anyone had a chance to turn a wheel in a test drive. Saves your customers from catastrophic depreciation which is just as well given how much parking sensors cost.

Now they have got over the chop shop MP4 12C and p1 front, it looks really well resolved. That colour is also excellent.

It seems to drive damn well and if the noise is not up to it, then the video would seem to dispute that.

Bit of a tour de force then from Mclaren who seem to be learning very quickly how to improve their cars.

That actuating rear wing as well. Seems like the entire rear third of the car is actuated.

He wants to know if it is better than the 911 though. On the basis or this, the 488 and newer McLarens clearly are. Excellent news.

Aye, I agree ..but the article made 2 direct comparisons with the 488

I think they'll be doing well to sell all 500 units. Time to close the 12C chapter and move on McLaren

See above posts, all 500 are gone. Indeed at least one of our number here on PH is regretting not putting a deposit down when there was still a 675LT to be had.

Cracking foot in mouth moment Gromit.
You're eagerness to take an ill informed swipe at McLaren overwhelmed you a bit there?

All sold before ANY delivered.

I thought the point about the legal usability of these cars on public roads was an interesting and very relevant one. In this case we have a car which does 0-60mph in barely three seconds and 100mph from rest in barely six.

How can you really enjoy the full performance on something like this for more than a few seconds at a time without having to go to track? I understand that lots of people ignore speed limits, but again the performance of cars like this is so extreme that again to explore that potential on public roads, whether legally or illegally, cannot possibly be a safe or responsible thing to do.

Now it's a wonderful thing of desire, but I'd honestly have an old Daytona or something where you get a tremendous experience in something special but can at least fully open the taps fully for 8-10 seconds and not find yourself doing 160mph. It just seems that this supercar arms race is creating cars of decreasing relevance and usability.

So, some of the manufacturers are starting to make their cars more fun to drive rather than just fast. Toyota was right after all smile

This is the only new supercar what i really want! Well done McLaren.

Looking at Bubney's PH O' meter scores... He scores any McLaren piece 1. Ferrari, Lamborghini, Italian stuff in general... The vast majority get 10. Whatever McLaren do he's not going to like. He's is of course entitled to his opinion. wink

It's actually not only Mclaren. Japanese manufacturers and strangely Aston Martin get similar scores. As you said everyone has their own opinion but at least try to be fair and objective rather than disliking something just for being
