Soaking in Autoglym Intense Tar Remover does it for me. Turns the adhesive into easy to remove jelly.

You won't damage car paint with a heat gun (unless you try to melt the car), they only strip paints like oil based gloss that soften with heat!
I have a paint stripper type heat gun, which can produce heat above 600 degrees C. Something like this: http://www.bosch-professional.com/gb/en/heat-guns-...

Are you saying that if you point one of those for long enough at automotive paint that it won't damage it/burn the surface? I have pointed my heat gun at a lump of charcoal in a bbq and it caught fire just with the heat of the gun! Surely that can damage automotive lacquer? Whats the melting point of a normal automotive lacquer?
I'm saying no one would be as stupid as you, yes.

hehe

Of course it will damage the paint if you point it at the paint for a prolonged period!

The idea is to use it to gently heat the adhesive, so it melts enough to peel away.

I removed the signwriting from my old van with a heat gun, then used a petrol soaked rag to remove the residue. A quick wash to give the paint work some form of protection after the petrol and you wouldn't have known there were ever stickers on it.

Last month I removed the scorpion from my Abarth 500 bonnet and I got every last bit of the glue off using this method...

hairdryer on the sticker
autosmart tardis with kitchen roll on the residue
clay bar and water to get the little bits off

Just saw this. Where did I say that I had melted paint with a heat gun? There is a high potential for someone less experienced and less skilled to cause damage, that's what I was pointing out.

If you'd like to compare educational credentials or business acumen/success to determine how intelligent I am then feel free. I have a strong feeling you would lose. So wind your neck in sunshine.

I would postulate that on the evidence of the composition used above, you would in all likelihood fail the written English test.

I forgot the kids are on summer holidays now, why don't you get off your dad's Ipad and go play with some lego sweetheart. There there.

To be fair, I would agree that you need it. So chop chop, get signed up.

Dick swinging on PH gets a bad reaction, but I can assure you that I don't need to take any english courses or further qualifications, but thanks for your concern. You've been on PH for a whole month and making friends already I see. Good luck to you.

I tried boiling water from the kettle, and to a large extent it worked. However it took me about 10 mins and a whole kettle to remove one little square, and it still left all the glue residue on the paint. Extrapolate this to a whole roof load of about 40 squares, means I aint got the will power to DIY.

So need to pay someone to do it for me. Should I go to a standard garage, or is it a job for a detailer, or is it another trade?

To reference the dreaded Wheeler Dealers: Ed China removed some 20+ year old decals from a Fiat with a sort of heat-induction-pad-glove-type-thing and a razor blade/scraper. Seemed to work well but as always don´t always believe what you see on the telly...

Steam wall paper stripper, get one off eBay for £15, remove graphics, back on eBay with it.
