I don't even have to show my licence* with hertz in any country - already saved in my profile.

When I did try this code generator crap out of curiosity, it gave an error, and continues to do so. No idea why.

Even if they insisted, I could just show my US license* anyway

*(spelling pedants: my american one says license, my uk one says licence, so I can use either tongue out )

Mine as well - had to phone up the DVLA in the end. The response I got was that the DVLA might not know my NI number (everything else keyed was per their records). Regardless, this still forms part of their check process & they're also to tell me what information they might have.

Wasn't asked for the code by the rental company in the end.

Yup, last week Lago Rent in Faro, he didn't care. I had the code, but my wife hadn't but he specifically said that was not required and put her on as well.

Italy three weeks ago (Europcar) - no code asked for, though we had them.

I use hire cars every week and they were pretty hot at checking them in the first week then went back to as frequent as asking for the paper part.

As it takes less than a minute to generate the code and are easily accessible on your phone its best to generate one first just incase. They last 30 days.
