I don't know what it is about Shell stations, but all the ones around here are the most run down, knackered filling stations around. The attached Shops are all run by Asian chaps selling 4 day old samosas and Knock off iPhone chargers.
quite the opposite down south, Shell are typically the best.
BP is nearly always the most expensive, with a shop attached and one till manned.

To try and get this back on topic....

Has/are any of you guys using the Shell App to "fuel and go"?

I'd like to know if it's working or not for other people.....

It works well until you get caught.

I was asked if I want a shell drivers club card once. Just had a look again and if I buy 500 litres of diesel @ 1 point per litre I earn a £2.50 reward. Let's say that a litre of diesel is about £1.16 at the moment. So for spending £580 on diesel with them, I would get £2.50, or essentially 0.43% cash back.

At the time I was using about 50 litres of diesel a week so it would take about 10 weeks to earn the reward, which works out to 25p a week.

I think I'll drive down there now and sign up!
I use it to collect Avios points rather than cash back

Between Shell, Tesco and my credit card all offering Avios, I get enough points to get me a couple of free business class flights to Geneva each year (which saves a bit on the ski season), and maybe entry to Legoland or suchlike for nothing which suits me and my 5 yr old fine

I've used it a few times now, saves time when there's a huge queue in the shop etc. Only issue I've found it can be a little slow to open the app, enter pin, select fuel and go, scan QR code wait for payment to pre authorise and THEN you can get out your car and fill up.

I'm confused by the idea of it, though I doubt there is any risk, most petrol stations have signs up saying not to use mobile phones.
How does it relay the info to the attendant so they know you've paid?

The app actually says you have to use it from inside the car.

Had the same 'technical issue' error for me. Then pay at pump wasn't working (yes you can collect points for the poster who asked earlier).

Then realised I was on the wrong side and hadn't got close enough to get the hose round (was in OH's car).

Took about 20 bloody minutes to fill up that time!

Yes you have to scan a QR code from inside your car. Bit of a bummer if the filler cap is on the passenger side.

I know, thread bump but I used it today for the first time (due to paypal linking giving out £5 of free fuel for anyone who uses it) and my local Shell garage being refurbished for it.

I quite liked it and was impressed. I thought it would be the same as pay at pump but rather than getting one's wallet out, the phone comes out instead. But it is a bit more subtle than that so saves a bit more time, we're not talking minutes though.

Process went as follows:
Drive up to pump as normal and turn engine off.
Get phone, open shell app, touch fill up and go, and scan the QR code from your car. I also needed to use touch ID (iPhone) or enter a 5 pin code which I forgot.
It took a few seconds to process (15 seconds or so) then said ready to go.
I set mine to £40 max for no particular reason, just faffing around.
Fuel up as normal, when I got to about £39.54, the pump just cut out and I couldn't pump any more.
Return pump as normal, stare at phone waiting for some sort of acknowledgement that I've paid and am not a fuel thief, it took around 15-20 seconds again, which is a long time for a male at a pump after filling up and sitting in the car. I guess this could be skipped though, just drive off and hope the internet does its thing. That requires some sort of trust though, but I guess if it's dispenses the fuel, then it should work.
I got a message saying how much fuel I got and how much I paid, then left, overtaking a motorbike on the pump ahead, who didn't seem impressed that I came in after him and left before, it occured to me that bikes may benefit more from this system than car drivers too at that point.

I'd use it again if I remember and can link my credit card to it rather than using paypal.

Most non-Supermarket PayAtPump systems only work until the operator realises they've lost loads of footfall in the shop selling overpriced sausage rolls.

Except that you must scan the QR code from inside the car to avoid falling foul of their "no phones to be used on forecourt" policy, and that's not possible on a bike.

I also used it last week, due to the free £5 from Paypal. With the waiting for the phone to authorise etc I don't think it is much quicker than going into the shop, but if it looks like the shop is busy I'll use it again.

I gave it a try for the £5 off deal.
Worked well, but I did feel like I was driving off without paying!

So just a simple 10 stage process then.

Not had the chance to try it yet, but I've got the app downloaded now, got my loyalty card number set, and linked my PayPal account. However, do you get to choose at some point which payment method from within PayPal it uses? I have an account linked which is to all intents and purposes dead, and I have my debit card which I'd like to use. I can't seem to find anything up front to define the payment route.

Open your Paypal app, go to Settings, Instore Payments, and you should see your card and your bank account listed.
You can swipe the list to choose which is your preference.

Agree on the second point but not the first.
