We often have "what car" threads, and threads discussing best family/everyday cars. What interests me is what were the actual changes You've made to Your fleet when You become a father/mother? Have You sold Your sportscar altogether, or swapped Your Caterham to a 911? Have You abandoned Your shed and went to buy a new, shiny and safe vehicle with 8 airbags?

I swapped my Legacy for a Volvo and then bought an RB5 to go with it.

The TVR remains no matter what.

The Passat is fine to use for child. If push comes to shove we will purchase another estate car to run two.

I was about to start some welding repairs and general restoration on my RS2000 around the time my son was born. Then we moved house and it sat for years while kids and DIY took up my time and energy.

At least it's still there and I did make a small start on the work a couple of years ago (and injured my face while doing it), so I need to find the enthusiasm to crack on with it as I can't really blame the kids anymore as he's starting 6th form in September...

I remember a friend being quite upset that he'd had to give up his motorcycle and buy a Volvo.

I bought a second car for family duties. Now I commute by train and never drive my Monaro or ride my bike. I often think barn finds are just the garages of optimistic Dads who forgot about their old cars and bikes.

2012 C63 to 2013 S Line Plus Q5 Diesel. I underwent the equivalent of castration for a petrolhead.

Mrs became the primary driver, and the c63 was too much for her (her previous car was a Fiesta)

Sold the Chimaera as it wasn't getting used and bought an E39 M5 with the proceeds.

The PH car was "upgraded" to a Zafira Automatic in Angry Dad Silver. Still have the Zafira and non-PH-wise it's one of the best cars we've had.

Yeah but on the bright side you have the luxurious trinkets of the S-Line trim. Your neighbours must think you're doing alright. Oh 'the imagine' hehe

Nothing really. The O/H uses the family car, my daily only transports me to work and back. To be honest I ended up getting my current Elise to use as a weekend car about 4 months into parenthood.

It was many, many years ago (daughter has just last week moved into her own flat) but at the time I p/xed my Renault Alpine GTA V6 Turbo for a Mercedes 190E 2.3 16V.
Not so bad really.

Sold an M3 thinking I should be sensible and bought a disco 3
Got bored and bought another M3 (with a JCW Mini Cooper s as a stop gap)
Then bought a 911 which is still useable (kids now 9 and 10).

Also sold motorbike thinking I should be sensible.
Bought another one after about 2 months.

My PH 'car' was a 1200cc bike. That went and I replaced it 5 years later with a TVR that's staying.

Only 5 years in the wilderness I could live with.

I kept the mx5 til we confirmed the second one was coming at which point we(she) decided I need 4 seats. In response i bought a 172.

When No.2 got bigger we(she) decided I needed a more family oriented car with 4 doors and a decent boot so I bought an impreza.

She has since stopped interfering in car decisions
