In Switzerland we had a 3 door Golf R32 which was great on the twisty mountain roads. But when the twins came it was a right pain getting them in the back.

So when returned to UK bought a Merc C350 mainly because the C class had the biggest boot for the smallest size estate. I wanted something with a bit of pace and a proper auto, it has been a great car and not sure what to replace it with.

It sat in the garage in bits for two and a half years until I finally got round to reassembling it and getting it through an MOT. Now it sits in the garage awaiting the last few tricky bits of bodywork restoration and a respray, but at least gets driven once in a while!

I went from a Citroen Relay to a Volvo V70. T5 smile

That was then swapped for a Ford Mondeo estate. Diesel. Automatic. frown

2012 C63 to 2013 S Line Plus Q5 Diesel. I underwent the equivalent of castration for a petrolhead.

Mrs became the primary driver, and the c63 was too much for her (her previous car was a Fiesta)
Yeah but on the bright side you have the luxurious trinkets of the S-Line trim. Your neighbours must think you're doing alright. Oh 'the imagine' hehe
If only, my neighbours consist of Arabs who bring their super cars over for summer, a guy who owns two football clubs, the producer of the Beatles, and round the corner Tony Blair.

I am Mondeo man round these parts, in comparison....I feel even more depressed now, wish I hadn't opened this topic banghead

Topic popped up in my search for 'C63' ;-)

I've been fortunate that I still own my fun cars since becoming a father. Using them, however, is a different matter as they are both 2-seaters.

Bought what I though was a sensible family car (BMW 530D) when Mrs Survivalist was 8 months pregnant as we needed something comfortable with room for a baby seat. Seemingly forgot that I dislike (in order) diesel engines, large cars, auto gearboxes during the purchase process.

The main problem with the PH cars lack of seats is how little I get to use it. The typical argument against M3/C63/RS4 is that your newfound parental responsibilities mean you will drive it like a nun. However,in reality the number of times I found myself dropping off / picking up other people in diesel box and leaving my with a joyless solo journey home significantly outnumbered the number of times I went for a drive on my own in a sporty car.

10 months on I could stand it no longer and sold the 530, replacing it with a much older 335i estate. Still auto as Mrs Survivalist prefers it and used choice of 335i 'wagons' is limited. Potentially still a stopgap as I really can't decide between an E90 M3 Saloon and C63 AMG Estate. PH wisdom seems to suggest the C63 as a better daily drive, but having driven both I still found the auto box in the C63 made it feel a bit remote for me.

1st world problem I know, but still can't decide. Maybe I should see how far I can tune the 335 while i make my decision.

Got a westy, 911 turbo and Peugeot 205. Baby was born in July so pug is up for sale. Mrs e8 wants something more suitable, she's right of course but the other two will stay I think.

Sold the Mrs Mini and bought her a qasquai. Kept my Monaro, 205 GTI and selection of bikes.

Use them all frequently, can easily get baby gear for a day out in the toys, the bikes get used either on track when I take a day off work or early doors at the weekend before we do family stuff or of an evening as I think it's important to still do your own thing every now and again.

Qashqai is great for longer breaks.

I used to have a Mk3 Vauxhall Astra, fitted with a 370bhp Cavalier Turbo C20LET engine. It was as bonkers as it sounds. driving

When my first was born I came over all sensible and got rid for a 57 plate Passat diesel estate. frown

That lasted about 12 months until I couldn't take the boredom any more and swapped to a 4.2ltr V8 S6 Avant.

I now have two kids and the Audi is gone. But I do have a Land Rover Discovery 2 with a 4.6ltr RV8 in it. smile

When my daughter arrived in 2010 I had this :

Yes, the Lancia that is owned now by Competition winner John.

We bought a Qashqai when the Lancia sold in 2011, then moved house, sold the Qashqai and bought a newer one for the OH and kids, I had a cheap run around.

Now the kids are getting more mobile, and the Qashqai has been replaced with an SMax, I now have this

So, I am happy again, except I sold all my Lancia stuff,.....

The Golf VR6 was replaced with my dad's old Megane and the Westfield sat in the garage for 3 years untouched before I started a slow 5 year refurbishment of it as time & funds permitted. Though during this time it was wheeled out now and again, when it had wheels, for the little ones to sit in & go "brrroommm".

During this period I got my hands on a cheap, tatty Alfa GTV Twinspark which the children thought was great being taken to school in. It used to amuse my work colleagues when I turned up at work with three children's booster seats in it.

The Westfield is back on the road now & the children love it, though not so good on the school run with only two seats.
