cheapest way to get a private reg
Discussion
I've found a number I like and I want to register it. It's only a basic one, nothing fancy.
I get the feeling from looking at the various websites that there must be a cheap way and a more expensive way of getting a private reg depending on who you use?
So anyone know the cheapest route? Can you even go direct to the DVLA or do they charge more than the private companies?

Does the private company price include the £80 transfer fee? I think this is included in the DVLA price.
This.If the same plate is available in both places it will be cheaper on DVLA.
yep, checked what happens if you try to buy the plate through reg-transfers and they add on the £80 on top of the initial quote. So DVLA is cheaper.
I still think it's too expensive even through the DVLA? What are you paying the money for? There must be a company out there somewhere who offer a better rate?

There isn't unfortunately (AFAIK anyway!) And I think you're also only paying to effectively borrow the plate as if you miss-use it, i.e mis-space the characters and get caught a couple times I believe they can revoke your rights to the plate!I still think it's too expensive even through the DVLA? Depending on the price of the plate it often isn't the dearest part of it! It the transfers each time you change car! Ive has mine on 4 cars with a few months on retention and that has cost me more than the purchase price!
