Considering a personalised plate for my new car, what are the rules? Don't want to be labeled a Chav, just after something a bit tidier?
Awaiting inbound!
Here ya go... Awaiting inbound!
It's essential any worthy plate must be legal in absolutely every aspect and even if entirely so not have even the slightest whiff of any risible attempt at spelling anything by selecting combinations of numbers that may or may not resemble letters.
Any pre war 1x1 or 2x2 or 3x1 correctly displayed is always a pleasure to see and so are many prior to 1963. Providing you're sticking rigidly to the rules there's substantial bonus points if the number is worth considerably more than the vehicle it's attached to or it's been a gift or an inheritance rather than having the more commonplace endless perusal of listings or frantic squabbling at auctions followed by the exchange of money involved in it's acquisition.
That raises the bar somewhat and admittedly will limit your choice considerably but stick with it unless you're willing to take the risk of being condemned to eternal Chavdom, or even worse having someone snap your nasty attention seeking vulgarity of a illegal or illiterate numberplate and posting it on here.

Shame we dont have it on a car, cant sell it, dont want to use it as it doesnt really mean anything and it could be construed as having a football connotation, plus dont want to be that noticeable, everyone knows where you are.

I have three plates. They are all in the format A1 BCD. Different letters and numbers obviously. Nothing misplaced. Doesn't try to spell anything obvious. No attention-seeking. No weird fonts or non-legal backgrounds. They were all minimum price from DVLA.
I agree they look neater than AB12 CDE type plates.
