I'm sure someone will be along to say it's legal but I saw it, noticed it was the wrong colours and thought it looked crap on what was actually a very nice car.

Please explain the crappiness of this plate? It's a Guernsey or Jersey plate I reckon? I think it's very stylish in black and silver, and can't see what could possibly be wrong with the number and letters combination?
I reckon you are wrong

OK, not a Guernsey plate then. Although it's still stylish in my opinion, it's not in the right colours, and therefor c124ppy.

It's not c124ppy - it's just illegal biggrin

Traditional plates for vehicles constructed before 1 January 1973
Vehicles constructed before 1.1.1973 may display traditional style “black and white” plates i.e. white, silver or grey characters on a black plate.

The plate may or may not have been originally allocated to a vehicle constructed before 1/1/1973 but it certainly isn't now wink

But to be fair it's difficult to tell the difference between a 2016 911 and one built before 1973.

Not quite true any more.
It's on a rolling 40 years nowadays. In 5 years time cars from the 80s which never were able to be black and white will be able to display them legally!

Now that's a good find initially as it leads you to believe they are linking black and silver plates to historic tax status

However if you read the comments in response to a request for clarification

Could you clarify the legal basis for the extension of black and white plates to all historic vehicles? As both a lawyer and the owner of a 1973 vintage car, I am probably more interested in this point than 'normal' people.

Hi Jon,
You’re right - cars registered on or after 1st Jan 1975 cannot display a black and silver number plate.
There is a link to the tax class - for a pre 1975 vehicle to display a black and silver number plate the registered keeper must:
• have applied to DVLA, and
• be registered within the ‘historic vehicles’ tax class.
I should explain - the 40 year exemption date rolls forward automatically each year on 1 April.

Grr this boils my piss. What's wrong with calling it a Boxster and not a bloody 718? I mean at least stick to 981 if you have to because that is similar to the 911!!!!!!!! irked

B17BBY on a black Range Rover in Sandhurst this afternoon. But that's a perfectly acceptable plate and not crappy you say?

True, apart from the front plate that read BOBBY. They'd achieved this by liberally curving both the 1 & 7 and pushing them right together so that it would resemble an O rolleyes

Bonus points given for printing "Bobby" as part of the tagline along the bottom of the plate laugh
