Surrey had the second highest number of illegal number plates in the country in 2015
No Surrey Police issued the second highest number of fixed penalty notices for illegal number plates
Yes that's how i'd read into that..
MrReg also thinks that Black and Silver plates can be used post 1974 - it's a rolling exemption apparently

Wrong thread, that's a great plate despite the spacing

To summarise what makes a crappy plate
  • Illegal typeface or font style (italics) is crappy
  • Illegal spacing is crappy
  • Using coloured screw covers to misrepresent text is crappy
  • Using the wrong plate or lettering colours is crappy
  • Substituting a 0 (zero) for a letter O is NOT crappy
  • Substituing a 0 (zero) for a D is crappy
  • Substituting a 1 (one) for a letter I is NOT crappy
  • Substituting a 1 (one) for an L is crappy
  • Substituring a 2 for a Z is crappy
  • Substituting 12 for an R is crappy
  • Substituting 13 for a B is crappy
  • Substituting a 3 for an E is crappy
  • Substituting a 4 for an A is crappy
  • Substituting a 4 for an H is crappy
  • Substituting a 5 for an S is crappy
  • Substituting a 6 for a G is crappy
  • Substituting a 7 for a T is crappy
  • Substituting an 8 for a B is crappy

By your own definition illegal spacing is crappy. You agree that plate is illegally spaced so how exactly does it not belong in here?
"Illegal spacing is crappy. Except when I say so"
He doesn't make the rules. Quit humouring him.
Nope you're right, he doesn't. Like it or not the Grubberment makes the rules and provides the gold standard for acceptability or otherwise of numberplates clearly laid out in the V796 form and BS AU 145d.

Anyone choosing to break the law and display a number plate contrary to those requirements is really revealing a awful lot about themselves.

A couple of spots from this morning, predictable with the RR Sport and e90. Nice additions to the boot badge on the Peugeot too!

Seems he may well be correct. Unfortunately. Unintended consequence of recent changes in legislation as to the definition of the cut off date for an 'Historic Vehicle' ?

That's what you get for a "quick google"

Dig deeper biggrin

Especially regarding the MOT rules

Vehicles manufactured before 1 January 1973 may have registration plates displaying white, grey or silver characters on a black background.

On vehicles first registered on or after 1 January 1973, check: the colour of the characters and background

Reason for fail - Missing or incorrect

There's a car near my mums place which is on a white plate with a P in the Eurozone sign.

The number plate is DJ 09 RUT spaced like that. There's also a small P sign between 09 and RUT if I remember correctly.

It's really weird. I'll try and get a photo next time I'm there.
