RE: Lotus Exige 360 Cup
Discussion
Love this car and what Lotus are doing now under JMG.
However, the one thing that I am not over keen on though are the wheels on the V6 Exige.
The Evora 400 and the 3-11 have some lovely looking forged rims. Hope new ones will appear on the Exige 400... If it ever happens.
Great looking car

Lotus desperately needs a car which will appeal to humans as well as web-geek-driving-gods. In the meantime I hope some buyers are actually going to thrust their £63k in the direction of Hethel to keep the factory open.
How tall and/or fat and old are you, that you think the average human can't fit in an exige? Most people can fit in one, but it is true that they kept the Elise platform smaller than the normal 95th percentile or whatever. But I think it is fair to say that the original designers had no idea this tub would still be in use 20 years later and packing a 360hp v6!! Good for them though.
I would be annoyed if I was over 6'1 and didn't fit in one, but I would still understand why lotus did it (and buy an evora).
Lotus Cars became my obsession at the age of nearly 14 years old when I first laid my eyes upon a brilliant white 1990 Esprit SE at a local exotic car mechanic's garage on the way to the grocery store with my mother. I distinctly remember (and will NEVER forget as long as I live) being awe struck on how unbelievably flat/wedge-like the front of the Esprit was as we drove passed it. For those wondering, the grocery store was a mere half mile away at most and my two best friends happened to live not far at all from it, so when I got to the store I excitedly asked my mother if I could run to my friends houses and go see the amazing car we drove passed just minutes before. She said yes and off I went to get my friends. 20 minutes later there we were, 3 teenage boys awe-struck, speechless and at least for me forever changed.
A few months after that wonderful day I was with my mother yet again accompanying her to the grocery store. However this time I had asked if I could go into the five-and-dime store and spend my time looking through the line-up of car magazines such as, Car & Driver, Automobile, Road & Track, and then BAM!! I was hit in the face with a very familiar bright yellow shape on the front cover of the January/February edition of Sports Car International... There, on the cover, lay printed on the high-gloss paper was undoubtedly an Esprit, with the title written something to the effect of; LOTUS ESPRIT S4 TURBO; THE LOTUS FOR ADULTS!!
And there began my endless pursuit of EVERYTHING Lotus related; save ALL the wonderful details for another thread.
I tell that story because I want to convey some semblance of just how much Lotus Cars as a product and as a Company means to me. I am nearly 34 years old now and I can proudly say that I obtained my dream car roughly 10 years ago; a 1989 Esprit Turbo, white with tan interior. Sadly however, my ownership was short-lived due to the untimely death of one of my best friends; he was the closest I had to a brother and he was one of the two that came with me to see the Esprit for the first time that day when I was 13 years old and on the way to the store with my mother.
The point I am going for here is this; The Esprit is my dream car, always has been and always will be. I could have had another Esprit or just about any other Lotus in the years since and even up until now. And my sights are set on any well looked after Esprit from the model Esprit S4, S4S, and/or the V8tt (preferably the inline-4).
I always dreamed of and said to myself that if I ever become wealthy enough to buy whatever I desire I will emulate Jerry Seinfeld and rent an airplane hanger to store 1 of every Lotus I ever wanted. LOL
I seriously need to get moving on the financial front because at the rate Lotus is putting out new vehicles I have a lot of catching up to do.
The thing is, at some point by next summer I will be in the position to actually make the move to purchase a Lotus of my choosing. This is where it becomes very tricky because as an enthusiast who was "introduced" to Lotus Cars at the age I was, I feel it is imperative I fulfill properly my childhood dream and obtain an Esprit to keep for a summer or two, or three But I also really would love to not have to worry about the delicate nature of what is now considered a classic being over 20 years old and I would love to get a newer Lotus like a Supercharged Elise. That is until the Evora SC came out. Being 34, the Evora fits the criteria best because it is not as primitive as an Elise, it is more 'adult' and every-day user friendly. But then holy st if I dont nearly have an accident in my pants when I lay my eyes on the Exige line-up!!! I mean honestly, who among us can truthfully say that Lotus Cars isn't finally stepping up to the plate and delivering us some pretty f****** awesome machines!!!!
When next summer comes, I am going to have a SERIOUS dilemma on my hands on whether to go with an Esprit, an Evora or an Exige...
Just look below at the iterations of the Exige. It has truly evolved into a very proper, masculine machine, aka piece of rolling art...
And yet oddly enough, the original Elise still manages to keep my attention with its subtle yet clean and, hell I'll say it, perfectly innocent lines... It's gorgeous.

It was at the Brands Hatch Lotus festival. Looks great in the flesh. The new brakes, new front access panel and rear louvred engine cover are particularly nice. Great value at £62k but some stuff like the carbon seats has moved to the options list. You can also get a stereo now which I think is a shame actually. I just think the Cup cars should continue without stereos, besides it's so easy just to use an mp3 player and earphones.
Anyway David Tillyer was at the festival yesterday and has somehow managed to edit and upload this already.

Having been taken by the look of the 360 Cup, I took the plunge. 10 weeks later, I collected this from Lotus in Long Stratton. It is some bit of kit, a far cry from my S1 that I have enjoyed for the last 16 years!!
The whole process has been brilliant, I am very pleased with it. I wasn't brave enough for the red wheels though so mine are black

That looks amazing! One of my favorite cars. I do like the new 350 too, especially the exposed gear mech. The whole process has been brilliant, I am very pleased with it. I wasn't brave enough for the red wheels though so mine are black
If only my funds would allow for a Lotus upgrade.
Enjoy... I think you will !
